💰The Story of Mrs Bee - Founder of Nebraska Furniture 💰

Mrs. Bee, known formally as Rose Blumkin, was a remarkable businesswoman and the founder of Nebraska Furniture Mart, one of the largest furniture stores in North America.

Born in 1893 in a small village in Russia, Blumkin immigrated to the United States in the early 20th century, fleeing the pogroms and seeking better opportunities.

In 1937, with a mere $500 in savings, Blumkin founded Nebraska Furniture Mart in the basement of her husband’s pawnshop in Omaha, Nebraska.

Despite her lack of formal education and her limited English, she possessed an extraordinary business acumen and a tireless work ethic.

Her guiding principle, "sell cheap and tell the truth," helped her build a reputation for honesty and competitive pricing.

Blumkin’s approach to business was hands-on and customer-focused. She worked tirelessly, often putting in seven-day weeks, and maintained personal oversight of the store’s operations well into her later years.

Her persistence and dedication turned Nebraska Furniture Mart from a small basement shop into a multi-million dollar business.

In 1983, at the age of 89, Blumkin sold a majority interest in Nebraska Furniture Mart to Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway for $60 million but remained actively involved in the business until her centennial years.

She continued working at the store daily until she was 103, embodying a spirit of perseverance and dedication that inspired many.

Rose Blumkin passed away in 1998 at the age of 104, leaving behind a legacy of entrepreneurial success and a lasting impact on the retail industry.

Her story is a testament to the power of hard work, integrity, and unwavering commitment to one's principles.

One of the best books ever written

8 lessons from Sun Tzu's "The Art of War":

1. Know your battlefield: Whether it's a literal war or a business deal, understanding the situation, the players, and the risks is essential. Do your research, gather information, and make informed decisions.

2. Victory without fighting is the best kind: The goal is to win, not necessarily to brawl. Outsmarting your opponent, finding creative solutions, and avoiding unnecessary conflict often leads to the best outcomes.

3. Timing is everything: Seize the right moment to act. Don't rush in blindly, and don't hesitate when the opportunity presents itself. A well-timed move can be the difference between winning and losing.

4. Deception can be a powerful weapon: Misdirection and surprise can throw your opponents off balance. Use clever tactics to create advantages and exploit weaknesses.

5. Choose your battles wisely: Not every conflict is worth fighting. Sometimes, retreating or finding a compromise is the smarter move. Avoid wasting your resources on battles you can't win.

6. Leadership matters: A strong leader inspires and motivates their team. Set clear goals, communicate effectively, and foster a sense of trust and unity. A well-led team is a powerful force.

7. Discipline and organization are essential: Chaos and confusion breed failure. Maintain a structured and disciplined approach to your endeavors. Have a clear plan, delegate tasks effectively, and ensure everyone knows their role.

8. Know your strengths and weaknesses: Be honest about your capabilities and limitations. Leverage your strengths and find ways to compensate for your weaknesses. Understanding your opponent's strengths and weaknesses is equally important.
