Deciding how much weight an equine can carry is often a confusing and controversial topic. Is it only about weight? How much is too much? How do I know if my equine’s weight limit needs to be reduced?

Join the PATH Intl. Equine Welfare Committee for a Virtual Roundtable on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 12:00 PM MST for an open conversation including topics touching on the science behind why weight limits are important, factors to consider when setting a weight limit for each of your equines and how to communicate the “why” behind your weight limit to volunteers, families and staff. This event is free for attendees. Register here: https://loom.ly/a_lXRIM.

Congratulations to Team Carlisle Academy a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center in Lyman, Maine for the completion of their reaccreditation! Carlisle Academy is a wonderful example of the excellence and best practice in the equine-assisted services field. Time to celebrate all that effort!

We are pleased to announce good news of our PATH, International Premier Accredited Center status, receiving a 100% passing score, an accomplishment shared by all Carlisle staff who worked hard in myriad ways to achieve this success.

This is our 5th accreditation with PATH since 2002, a voluntary process that represents our continued commitment to safe, high-quality equine-assisted services.

Our services have evolved over the years, particularly after COVID, as the organization’s resources shifted and new community needs emerged, and today our PATH accredited programs focus on an industry category called equine-assisted learning. At Carlisle this looks like individuals and diverse agency groups, like Caring Unlimited, Crossroads of Maine, Dempsey Center, Cultivating Community, Maine Veterans Home, and Sanford Vet Center, coming here for ground-based (unmounted) equine experiences centered on growth, learning, wellness, and enrichment.

These community partnerships continue to grow, thanks to support from the Carlisle Foundation, and our commitment to connecting people with horses and nature in meaningful ways remains steadfast. Onward!
