Acme Neon Signs

Original neon sign from Denver's VFW Post 1 found and restored You'd think a 15-foot neon sign, like the one that hung outside of VFW Post 1, couldn't go missing. But it did.

Acme Neon was hard at work today fixing the Lion's Lair sign on East Colfax Avenue (photos taken Sunday, August 21, 2016).

When you consider that this metal sign encompasses the entire front facade of the building above the door (not just the letters), this is easily one of the more impressive signs around. It is believed to have been installed in 1967.

Here's a description from Melissa: "Anyone from Denver is familiar with the now demolished Gates Rubber Factory in Denver Colorado and the iconic clock that could be viewed from the road when driving down South Broadway.

Thanks to my husband being in the right place at the right time years back and appreciating the history of this clock, he was able to legally obtain it and as of today finish a preservation restoration to restore it to MOST of its former glory.

The hand painted numbers were left untouched while the neon was professionally restored to the same size and colors as they once were. Every bit of original hardware was used in reassembly, and the neon was rewired to a standard household outlet. Unfortunately the hands were not able to be saved so new ones had to be made, but outside of those, the glass, and the neon, everything is just as it was when it was installed into the building addition in the 1950's."
