Total Artificial Annihilation - On 6/26/2024 Meta’s new terms of service went into effect, which allows them to scrape your data on Facebook and Instagram to train their AI. Myself and many other artists are simply uninterested in having our work stolen from us. In commemoration of Meta’s apocalyptic stance on human-created artwork, I illustrated this Fallout-themed cartoon. There’s only one thing left to say: Duck Off.

In light of Meta’s upcoming Piracy… *cough* (excuse me) Privacy Policy going into effect on June 26th, 2024, I have removed all of my content from their platforms (Instagram and Facebook). If you are an artist or individual that doesn’t want their artwork, images, and/or data scraped and used to train Mark’s AI models, I recommend you do the same. I haven’t decided yet whether I am even going to bother posting much on Instagram or Facebook anymore. There’s a part of me that doesn’t want to leave behind the amazing communities I’ve gotten to be a part of on these platforms and there is another part of me that doesn’t want to give them a single second of my time or creativity ever again. If I do decide to post on here, all of my art is going to be protected using Glaze and/or Nightshade from the good people at the University of Chicago. Please go check out Glaze and Nightshade (both links are in my Linktree), they are FREE programs to help protect your artwork and images from being stolen and used by generative artificial intelligence. Glaze is a defensive tool that protects your art. Nightshade is an offensive tool that poisons AI and helps protect other artists too.

AI is running rampant right now, Adobe and Microsoft are of the same mind as Meta and will be or have already started scraping data as well. There doesn’t seem to be anywhere to run or hide from data scraping. To replace Adobe, I am currently looking into Affinity. Looks pretty good actually, but there will be a learning curve. No clue what to do about Microsoft. I’m open to ideas. Perhaps it is all futile, but you gotta at least try to get to the vault before the nukes hit, right?

While I’m sorting out the mess, I have created a Cara account (see Linktree as well). I’ve seen a mass exodus of artists to Cara, so I am hoping to see many (if not all) of you over there too. I may post a few more things here, but mainly to try and help spread the word about what’s happening.
