A little pick-me-up, with a side of truth ââ¤ď¸
Most cardiac arrests donât happen in hospitals.
They happen at work, at the gym, at a soccer game, or during a regular coffee run.
Thatâs why at HeartHero weâve always believed AEDs should be designed for ordinary people, not just medical professionals.
Because when an emergency happens, the person closest to help is usually just someone going about their day.
Maybe even the person sitting at the table next to you đ
You have enough weighing you down already. Your AED shouldnât be one of them đ

Imagine being stranded on a deserted island đď¸
No help nearby. No emergency responders around the corner. No AED within reach. đ
While most of us arenât actually stranded on an island, the reality is that many people live, work, hike, travel, or spend time in places where emergency help may be farther away than weâd like to think.
Being prepared isnât about expecting the worst. Itâs about understanding that help isnât always as close as it seems.
Thatâs why having access to an AED can make all the difference.

Turns outâŚscissors really can kill people âď¸
Okay, not in a âwatch out for the pointy endâ kind of way. But during cardiac arrest, every second spent fumbling through layers trying to cut clothes off is a second without a lifesaving shock. And thatâs the part that matters.
If scissors are nearby, great! Use them!
But if they arenât, donât waste valuable time trying to create the âperfectâ setup
In many cases, itâs faster to lift the shirt and place the pads immediately. Because in cardiac arrest, speed matters more than people realize.
The faster a shock is delivered, the better the chance of survivalâĄ
Most people first hear the word âtroponinâ after they, or someone they love, ends up in the ER đĽ
And when a doctor says, âYour troponin is elevated,â it can sound terrifying.
So what is troponin?
Troponin is a protein found inside heart muscle cells. When the heart is injured, stressed, inflamed, or not getting enough oxygen, troponin can leak into the bloodstream. â¤ď¸
Thatâs why doctors often check troponin when someone has:
⢠Chest pain
⢠Shortness of breath
⢠Fainting
⢠An abnormal EKG
⢠Symptoms concerning for a heart attack
But hereâs the important part:
An elevated troponin does NOT always mean heart attack.
It simply tells doctors: âSomething may be stressing the heart.â
Troponin can also rise from:
⢠Severe infection
⢠Heart failure
⢠Kidney disease
⢠Blood clots in the lungs
⢠Very fast heart rhythms
⢠Broken heart syndrome, also called Takotsubo cardiomyopathyđ (And yes, broken heart syndrome is real)
Troponin is not a panic number. Itâs a clue!đŠş
Doctors use it alongside symptoms, EKGs, medical history, and other testing to figure out whatâs really going on.
At HeartHero, we believe heart education should be simple enough for everyone to understand, because faster understanding can lead to faster action when every second mattersâĄ
