Summer is a great time for teens to practice the little things that build
confidence over time 🌱
Independence does not happen all at once — it grows through everyday moments like making choices, managing routines, and learning from experiences along the way. A little more ownership this summer can go a long way when fall arrives. ☀️

Summer independence does not start with big leaps — it starts with small, repeatable moments where teens get to try, adjust, and learn what works for them.
A routine they manage on their own. A decision they carry through. A mistake they work through without it being taken over. These are the kinds of experiences that build confidence quietly, over time.
The goal is not perfection. It is practice that feels steady enough to grow from 🌱

Spent my morning at Rice University, then explored the neighborhoods around it — and Houston genuinely surprised me. Everyone warned me it would be hot and miserable. Hot, yes. But miserable? Not even close. There’s so much here that feels layered and alive. The Museum District and the Menil Collection — world-class art, free to the public, set among gardens and reflecting pools. The historic, tree-lined streets of the Rice neighborhood with their gorgeous old homes. Montrose, vibrant and welcoming as the heart of the city’s LGBTQ+ community. Rice itself sits right in the middle of it all.
What stuck with me was how much character every corner holds. Houston, you’ve got more going on than people give you credit for. 💚

Yes, summer college visits are worth it — even without students on campus 🌿 Walk the grounds. Rent a bike. Try the coffee shop down the street and the restaurant everyone raves about ☕ A campus is also a community, and summer gives you the space to take it all in.

When you plan your summer, don’t forget to plan quiet time too 🌿
A bike ride, a picnic, a game night with friends, a cake baked for no reason, a full day away from scrolling ☀️
Small moments like these tend to stay with you longer.
