I tell every client that before they sign a retainer, they need to ask this specific question.
The question is: "Do you want me to drive the process with my spouse together and have the professionals in the backseat? Or do you want the professionals to be driving the car for us?"
This question changes everything, my blog explains why! ⬇️
How To Interview A Divorce Attorney (& the #1 Question To Ask) When building your divorce team, you have to ask the right questions to understand who will actually be making the decisions.

I have to be the bearer of bad news. I always tell people that internet education is one of the most dangerous things you can rely on in a divorce. And yes, I’m telling you that through this blog!
The problem isn't that the information is wrong. The problem is that the information is incomplete. You are getting raw data without knowing the full process, and the order of steps you take can have a huge difference. Read my recent blog below ⬇️
Is Online Divorce Advice Accurate? The Risks of AI Google and AI can give you facts, but they miss the context. Learn why "internet education" is dangerous in divorce and why you need experts involved.

Here is a harsh reality of divorce: You usually can't even start the true assumption process until your divorce decree is completely final. While most lenders might tell you it will take 2-4 months, in my experience, it's closer to 4-6!

You can have a perfectly legal, perfectly fair divorce agreement that is completely impossible to implement. Why? Sequencing.
Divorce finance is all about the order in which you make your moves. If you do the right thing at the wrong time, your implementation plan can fall apart!

What is one of the best things you can do with your spouse? Pick your attorneys together.
I know that sounds counterintuitive; it might even sound dangerous. But in my experience, keeping your attorney search a secret is actually one of the biggest mistakes people make. You are afraid they are going to hire a shark who will take all your money. They are afraid you are going to hire a shark who will take the kids. Because of this mutual fear, you both end up hiring the most aggressive lawyers you can find just to "protect" yourselves.
The result? You both end up with professionals who are built for war. You inadvertently escalate the conflict before a single document is filed. Plan ahead, and avoid the (extra) stress!

One of the biggest missed opportunities I see in divorce, and one that can cost thousands, is implementation. Specifically, people don't think about how they need to put things into place or the sequencing of those events.
And if you miss a step, you might find yourself tripping over your own feet right when you are trying to cross the finish line. Read this blog to see more about what I mean 👇
Divorce Financial Settlement Checklist: The Correct Order | Denver Divorce CFO You can have a perfect divorce settlement and still have headaches if you do the steps in the wrong order. See why financial sequencing is critical.

Most people assume that once the divorce papers are filed, they are strapped into a roller coaster. They think they just have to hold on and scream until it is over.
But that is not how it has to work. I use the analogy of driving a car. Specifically, what I call "Driving the D Car."
You have to ask yourself a fundamental question right at the start. Where do you want to be with your spouse in the divorce process?
Do you want to be driving the D car, working together with your spouse, perhaps with a professional up front helping you navigate? Or do you want your attorneys driving the car while you sit in the back seat?
Implementation is the true challenge of divorce. Planning ahead should be priority #1! Give us a call!
