In this week's article I discuss how vision without ex*****on is just a vibe. And vibes don’t build businesses. Discipline does. Systems do. Leadership does.
This piece includes a framework for ex*****on - From vibe to victory: the three bridges of ex*****on...
1. Translate the Vision Into Tactics
2. Delegate Ex*****on Without Abdicating Leadership
3. Iterate Relentlessly

Vision Without Ex*****on Is Just a Vibe You’ve probably felt it. That rush of clarity, the lightning bolt of insight that hits you in the shower or during a walk or while you’re staring out the window with a coffee in hand. A crystal-clear picture of the future. A company that runs smoother, grows faster, feels lighter. A team aligned...

"Giving Yourself Permission to Change - How Growth Feels, and What It Really Takes, to Evolve from Owner/Operator to Visionary Leader." Getting out of the weeds and into the mindset of a true leader and visionary for your business is easier said than done.
Here's an excerpt from this week's article, and you can follow the link below to read it in its entirety!
"Let’s reframe what success looks like at this new level. Old success was about the win today: a busy, expertly executed shift, a low food cost, a five-star review.
New success is about tomorrow: building people, financial sustainability, protecting your time, designing systems that deliver consistency without your constant presence."
Giving Yourself Permission To Change How Growth Feels, and What It Really Takes, to Evolve from Owner/Operator to Visionary LeaderThe last time you stood behind the stick during a Friday night rush, something shifted. The shake of the ice in the tin, the rapid-fire orders barked across the bar, the low hum of urgency coursing through t...

This week's article is titled "Delegation Is a Superpower – Not a Cop-Out," though it's truly about instilling confidence in your people, developing them, and building bench strength. After all, as Tom Peters and others have said, "Leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders."
Delegation Is a Superpower – Not a Cop-Out There’s a moment every leader hits. You’re standing at your desk or pacing the kitchen or scrolling blindly at hundreds of unanswered emails on your phone screen—and you feel it in your chest: that pressure, that weight. The gnawing feeling that everything rests on your shoulders. Every decisi...

Asking questions may seem simple. Second nature. As easy as taking a breath. But Author Warren Berger writes in "A More Beautiful Question" that while children between ages two and five ask about 40,000 questions, that number drops off a cliff after age five. Why, you may ask? In Berger's book, he reports: "But many educators and learning experts also contend that our current system of education does not encourage, teach, or in some cases even tolerate questioning."
My blog article this week is called: "How to Ask Better Questions — and Why That Changes Everything." As leaders, we need to be genuinely curious, and not only ask questions, but continuously ask BETTER questions. And, that also means giving space to those around us to ask better questions of their own. Follow the link below for the full article.
How to Ask Better Questions — and Why That Changes Everything It started with a single, careless question.I was consulting with a restaurant team that had been struggling for months with a slide in sales and morale. The GM looked tired, the kitchen manager had one foot out the door, and the line cooks were going through the motions like ghosts of a once-proud....

Dropping more knowledge today. It's "New Article Wednesday!" Here's an excerpt to get you started. Follow the thumbnail to read the full article.
"Urgency distorts time and perception. That email feels like it must be answered this second or the world might end. That schedule change feels like a five-alarm fire. But the real emergency? The one we don't notice… It's our brain’s inability to differentiate between true urgency and manufactured urgency.
And leaders? We're not immune. In fact, we're often the worst offenders."
When Everything Feels Urgent—But You Still Need to Think It started at 6:17 a.m. The first text buzzed through my phone while I was brushing my teeth. A line cook had called out. By 6:45, I had three texts, a missed call, and an email with the subject line: "We Need To Talk ASAP." No context. Just that one ominous sentence hanging in the inbox like a stor...

New Article dropped today!
Here's a quick excerpt - follow the link to read the entire article:
"Culture isn’t the vision and values poster on the wall, or the mission statement printed on your website. Culture is how people treat each other when no one’s watching. It’s the standards you walk past. The stories your team tells after their shift. The mood that settles in when leadership isn’t in the room. As Elizabeth Gilbert and others have said, “what you allow will continue.”
Culture Happens With or Without You - Choose Intentionally There’s a moment in every leader’s journey when they realize something unsettling: the culture in their organization isn’t exactly what they planned for it to be. Maybe it’s the tension in morning meetings, the unspoken rules that get more airtime than actual policy, or the constant, quiet c...

Can difficult conversations actually strengthen relationships? You bet they can. Facing conflict head on with curiosity and honesty builds trust at 10X and creates strong relationships. In today's article, that's exactly what I address, and how to make it happen.
As a trusted colleague of mine always says, “the things that 'go without saying,' should always be said.” Check out the full article here:
How to Have Difficult Conversations That Strengthen Relationships There’s a moment—sometimes loud, often quiet—when you know a difficult conversation is coming. It’s the tightening in your chest when an employee misses the mark again. It’s the silence after a friend’s comment that cuts too deep. It’s the long pause in a meeting when everyone realizes...
