It's always special when we get to work on a project right here in our home state of Colorado. This new shelter will be significantly larger than the current facility in Aurora, allowing staff and volunteers to touch the lives of many more animals and community members in need. Let's do this!

Project update!

Construction is underway at Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, a project our team has been working on since 2022. These photos are from our first site visit after construction began, and it was so exciting to see the progress so far.

Lollypop Farm supports many species of animals, not just companion animals, so this project has been a fun opportunity for our team to work on some farm animal spaces (like pig barns!). 🐷

Pictured are the intake farm animal barn, two happy faces from our firm, and the learning center we have consulted on with local architect LaBella.

Stay tuned for future progress updates!

We are so lucky to have an incredible team of hardworking and passionate people here at Animal Arts. We would love for you to meet some of the faces at our firm!

Introducing Emily Quebedeaux, licensed architect and project manager extraordinaire. Before making her way to Colorado, Emily lived in New Orleans, where she launched her career. She has been a valued part of our team for five years, and we honestly can't imagine the office without her!

Emily holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Architecture from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She's brought her expertise to some incredible projects, including the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Placer SPCA, and the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast.

A woman of many talents, Emily is also a musician and has been playing guitar since she was 13. If you’re lucky, you might catch her at an open mic night or playing a gig with her husband! When she’s not designing or playing music, you'll find Emily out in nature—hiking, kayaking, fishing, leisure biking, or snowshoeing through the Colorado mountains.

Emily has three beloved pets at home, two cats named Carlo and Scarpa (named after famous architect Carlo Scarpa), and a golden retriever named Aspen. We love when Aspen visits us at the office!

There is something magical about the atmosphere at a topping-off ceremony. That was certainly the case at the ceremony for the Animal Rescue League of Boston a couple of weeks ago. Seeing the built structure right before your eyes, signing your name on that final piece of steel, celebrating alongside your wonderful client and partners, it’s really a special experience. As a cherry on top, we got to pet a dog dressed as a construction worker! šŸ‘·šŸ•ļø

Designing a new, state-of-the-art facility for ARL of Boston in the same location as their existing building, while ensuring that operations can continue in their current facility during construction, has been a complex and rewarding challenge. When finished, the reimagined space will include an animal care and adoption center, a dog training center, an expanded shelter and veterinary hospital, and increased capacity for ARL’s outpatient clinic. Exciting updates to come!

Thank you to our awesome partners for your work on this project so far: JGE Architecture + Design, Commodore Builders, JVA Consulting Engineers, and QPD.

It’s no secret that owning and running a veterinary practice is a beast of a task. The good news? There are resources available to help you!

One we love recommending to clients is Blackwell’s Five-Minute Veterinary Practice Management Consult. With the fourth edition of this book now available, it’s a great time to snag a copy and dive into the wealth of knowledge inside. The book is divided into 17 sections and covers a variety of topics like access to care, staff shortages and recruitment, AI, pharmacy management, marketing, cash management, crisis protocols, operations, and more! Each chapter is bite-sized and can be read in just five minutes.

The Animal Arts team is proud to have contributed several chapters to the facility management section of the book. There is so much expertise squeezed into this one awesome resource, and we’re honored to have been included!

You might say we’re pretty obsessed with shelter pets here at Animal Arts. We think about them all day at work. We design passionately for them. We share our office space (and sometimes a nibble of our lunch) with them. And then, after a hard day’s work, we get to go home to them! What a privilege it is to live a life so full of animals. 🧔

Today is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, and it is a great day to go visit your local animal shelter and see who might be waiting for you!

In case you need a little extra motivation, here are a few pictures of our own adorable shelter pets. Now, go get yourself one (or three)!

Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of attending the open house of a client of ours, Pacific Coast Veterinary Specialists. Their new facility in Calabasas, CA turned out beautifully, and we loved working with them. It has been so incredibly rewarding to help bring their vision to life. Congratulations to the PCVS team!
