SAG-AFTRA Statement on the Arrest of Journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort

SAG-AFTRA condemns the arrest of member Don Lemon as well as independent journalist Georgia Fort by federal agents in connection with their reporting on events in Minnesota.

SAG-AFTRA represents broadcast journalists across the country who perform the essential function of documenting and reporting on newsworthy events as they unfold. The First Amendment protects this vital work, and any attempt to criminalize constitutionally protected journalism threatens not only our members but the fundamental democratic principle of a free press.

We will be monitoring this case closely.
