The 10,000 step goal is outdated. According to a 2025 systematic review published in The Lancet Public Health, health benefits plateau around 7,000 steps per day for most adults, but sitting for long stretches still raises chronic disease risk even if you hit your goal. Consistent movement throughout the day matters more than the number.

At WHC, movement is one of our six pillars. We focus on helping people find sustainable ways to move that fit their real lives. That might look like a walk after dinner, stretching between meetings, or simply standing up more often.

Save this if you have been chasing a step count that is not working for you. The important thing is to just start, no matter how small.

At WHC, we believe that emotional and mental well-being are just as important as what you eat or how you move.

Research consistently shows that mental health is a key determinant of overall health outcomes. Addressing emotional well-being alongside physical health leads to more sustainable, whole-person change.

When the sun sets later, more daylight in the evening delays your body's sleep signals. Over time that lost sleep affects your blood sugar, your stress response, and how you feel day to day.

A few things that can help:
πŸŒ™ Keep a consistent bedtime even on weekends.
πŸŒ™ Use blackout curtains to signal darkness to your brain.
πŸŒ™ Avoid screens for at least 30 minutes before bed.
πŸŒ™ Get morning sunlight early in the day.
πŸŒ™ Limit caffeine after 2pm.

Save this post if your sleep has been feeling off lately.

Most of us know we should sleep more. But do we know what happens when we don't?

Sleep is one of the six pillars of lifestyle medicine at WHC. Research from the CDC shows that poor sleep is not just about feeling tired; It is connected to some of the most common chronic conditions we see, including heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.

Rest is not separate from your health. It is the foundation of it.

We are almost halfway through 2026 and so grateful.

From our first staff gathering to participants showing up and doing the work, to handwritten thank-you notes that remind us exactly why we do this. The first half of this year has been full of connection, growth, and purpose.

Swipe through to see some of our favorite moments: our WHC team coming together, Faith, Sarah, and Dr. Julia Whitaker hard at work, a participant demonstrating movement in action, and a note from Alex that we'll be keeping forever.

We're so grateful for every partner, participant, and community member who makes this work possible.

"Taking the health class with Whole Health Collaborative was truly life-changing for me. During the program, I found out that my A1C levels were high, something I wouldn't have known otherwise. They taught me how to make simple but powerful changes to my diet and helped set me up with a few important blood tests. What really stood out was how they took the time to connect me with an affordable clinic so I could get the follow-up care I needed. I'll always be grateful for the support, education, and care I received. Whole Health Collaborative is doing something special, and I'm thankful to have been a part of it." β€” C.A., Whole Health Collaborative Participant

Everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of their financial situation. If the people you serve in your organization are without a healthcare provider, WHC can be the bridge to primary care. Reach out to us to learn more.

Recovery looks different for everyone. Our partner Live Different Recovery defines recovery as 'anything that people walk in with needing recovery from.' Recovery at LDR is open to anyone who walks in needing it, without judgment, without labels, and without barriers.
WHC is honored to partner with LDR to bring lifestyle medicine into the recovery journey. Together we offer breathwork sessions and an optional six month program covering all six pillars of lifestyle medicine, complete with health coaching and clinical support. This group shows up with humility, courage, and a vulnerability that has made this partnership one of the most meaningful parts of our work.
Substance use is one of the six pillars of lifestyle medicine at WHC because we believe that health includes every dimension of a person's life, and no part of that journey should be faced alone.
