New single ‘Makes Me Shine’ released today!

This is a song that has taken on a whole new meaning over the past year. I’ve been performing it live for over 15 years with various bands but it’s easier to sing it with feeling than ever before

This one didn’t make the final cut onto the ‘Time Drifts Away’ album but was recorded at the same time. It didn’t quite fit the vibe and would have put the project “over time” for the vinyl pressing so I decided to release it on it’s own with the two other tracks that Madeline Hawthorne sang harmonies on. And as a gentle reminder to go check out the full album if you haven’t already 🙂

This track features the ‘TDA’ album band with Taylor Sims on electric guitar, Sean Macaulay on drums/percussion and Eric Luba on organ. I can’t thank these guys enough for bringing this song and all of the songs on the album to life and giving them a familiar yet original feel and energy

Huge gratitude to Ben Waligoske at Clubhouse Recorders for the recording space and patience to engineer this project over the last couple years. It has been a challenge to find the time in between tours and local shows to track all of these songs but we got’er dunn. Thanks Ben!

Finally a heartfelt thank you to Todd Divel for putting the finishing touch of mixing and mastering the album tracks and this final single. I love how it all turned out and it wouldn’t have the dynamics and fullness without Todd’s magical abilities to bring the best out of all that we recorded. You’re the man.

‘Time Drifts Away’ full album is live!

It’s been a journey and I am thrilled to share this music with you. Over two years in the making I couldn’t be happier with the final product and with a more solid cast of characters

This album started as two singles ‘Mighty Saguaro’ and ‘Over Our Head’. The first (MS) was inspired by a trip to Baja CA Sur for the BajaGrass festival in ’23 and the stunning landscape near El Sargento and La Ventana in BCS. The cactus forest that surrounds that area, mountains and ocean vibes seeped through and was quickly crafted into those three verses and chorus. One of the few times I can honestly say “that one wrote itself”

The second single (OOH) was a spur of the moment realization that I needed another song to record in order to make a full day in the studio worthwhile for the engineer and musicians. And as they say, two is often times better than one

I booked studio time with Ben Waligoske at Clubhouse Recorders in Golden, CO with my two main amigos Sean Macaulay and Taylor Sims who play drums and electric guitar on the entire record, respectively. We went in and tracked those first two songs in May 2023 and it went quite well! I called Eric Luba to help out with the wurlitzer, organ and synthesizer parts and those songs were done. I thought that was going to be it

I have to thank Sean, Taylor, Eric and Ben for pushing me by saying “you’re onto something here…this could be a record rather than just two singles" and I started to explore that idea.

The title track ‘Time Drifts Away’ was written shortly after and we were on our way. The song TDA was influenced by an interview/podcast with one of my favorite bass players Tal Wilkenfeld done by Lex Friedman (highly recommended)

The rest of the songs are a compilation of old songs I had written that hadn’t seen the light of day other than the occasional pick around the campfire or solo acoustic performances and a few newer ones that fit the overall feeling of the record. Some are 15+ years old that I started when I first moved to CO and hadn’t finished. I’ll save those stories for another post…
