Letâs have some fun - parenting is hard enough!
Have you ever noticed itâs not actually about the drink?
After a fun night out, your brain just wants more of the feelingâmore connection, more energy, more âdonât let this end.â But hereâs the truth: more drinks donât extend the fun⌠they usually lead to regret, guilt, and a rough next day.
In this video, I break down why this happens and share a simple, powerful shift that helps you drink less without relying on willpower.
⨠The key? Pre-planning your ending.
Instead of leaving it up to âin the momentâ decisions (when your brain is tired and impulsive), you set yourself up ahead of time with something intentionalâlike a calming nighttime ritual waiting for you when you get home.
This is how you:
âď¸ Break the âone more drinkâ cycle
âď¸ Feel more in control without restriction
âď¸ Actually follow through on what you want
If youâre trying to drink less but still enjoy your life, this is for you.
Comment âprepâ and Iâll send you my Prep for Success Guide so you can actually start drinking lessâwithout relying on willpower or white-knuckling your way through it.
Because letâs be real⌠if willpower worked, you wouldnât be here đ
Stop trying to control yourself in the moment⌠start setting your future self up to win.

Alcohol often isnât just about the alcohol.
For so many women, it has become the support system where support is lacking everywhere else. And that is exactly what this podcast episode is about.
In Part 1, and I talk about:
⢠what somatic work actually means and why itâs become such a buzzword
⢠the difference between top-down healing and body-based healing
⢠why so many women use alcohol to âshut offâ
how alcohol can become a stand-in for support, soothing, and regulation
⢠the role of motherhood, caregiving, and overwhelm in drinking habits
⢠why co-regulation matters so much more than weâve been taught
⢠how Western culture disconnects us from our bodies
⢠why community can be one of the most healing parts of the journey

About Elani:
Elani Engelken is a depth psychotherapist and somatic healer whose work sits at the intersection of nervous system science, depth psychology, and embodied healing. She works with individuals, couples, families, and groups to explore the patterns that live beneath the surface, in the body, in the lineage, and in relationship. She is particularly drawn to the places where psychology and the sacred meet. (And sheâs really freaking awesome and amazing at what she does!)
Guess what? Youâre not âtoo emotionalâ - you likely were never taught how to FEEL your emotions.
And so what do we do?
We distract.
We push it down.
We pour a glass of wine and tell ourselves weâll deal with it later.
But hereâs the truth no one talks about:
đ What you donât process⌠your body will.
That stress? That grief? That low-grade âoffâ feeling you canât quite explain?
It doesnât disappear. It just waits.
And sometimes it shows up as: Burnout. Anxiety. Getting sick. Or that moment where everything hits you all at once.
I've lived this. Multiple times.
And I can say with absolute certaintyâ numbing it with alcohol doesnât make it go awayâŚ
âŚit makes it last longer.
Feeling your emotions isnât the problem.
Avoiding them is.
So before you reach for a drink tonight, ask yourself:
⨠What am I actually feeling right now?
⨠How am I letting these feelings come through to be processed?
⨠And what would it look like to let that be okay?
Start there.
Thatâs where everything changes.

Ever feel like youâre just going through the motions? It's okay to not be okay. Let's unpack this together.
Life can hit us hard, and sometimes we feel overwhelmed by grief and loss. Itâs essential to recognize that everyone processes emotions differently. My journey has taught me that confronting feelings, rather than escaping them, is key to healing.
Iâve learned the hard way that avoiding emotions only prolongs the pain. Recently, I faced a deep loss, and it reminded me of the importance of truly feeling what we go through. When we allow ourselves to sit with discomfort, we open the door to healing.
If you're struggling, consider what you're feeling and how youâre ACTUALLY processing it. Remember, you donât have to go through this alone.
Feeling emotions doesnât make you weak; it makes you human. Allow yourself the grace to feel and heal.

You know that momentâŚ
when you feel the pull?
The glass of wine.
The second pour.
The habit kicking in before you even think about it.
And then⌠resistance shows up.
That tiny voice.
That pause.
That âdo I actually want this right now?â
Most of us have been taught to hate that feeling.
We call it annoying.
Restrictive.
Depriving.
Ugh, just let me relax already.
But what if that resistanceâŚ
is actually where your balance lives?
I heard something in yoga today that stopped me in my tracks:
âResistance is balance.â
And WOW did that land.
Because of course it feels uncomfortable.
Youâre interrupting a pattern.
Youâre choosing awareness over autopilot.
Youâre sitting in the tension instead of numbing it.
Thatâs not failure.
Thatâs not restriction.
Thatâs strength.
That moment where you pause?
That is you building trust with yourself.
That little internal friction?
That is you recalibrating.
That discomfort?
That is literally the space where moderation is created.
Not by forcing.
Not by rules.
Not by âI canât.â
But by being willing to sit in the in-between.
⨠The sip⌠or not
⨠The second drink⌠or maybe water first
⨠The urge⌠without immediately answering it
Thatâs balance.
Not perfection.
Not never drinking again.
Not getting it ârightâ every time.
Balance is built in those messy, honest, slightly uncomfortable moments
where you pause instead of react.
So if you felt resistance todayâŚ
instead of fighting itâ
What if you trusted it?
Because that might just be the most grounded, powerful version of you
trying to come online.
If this hit⌠tell me đ
