To commemorate what may be our last snow, I thought I'd post this one. I don't like adding stuff in editing (most of the time), so I was quite happy when this one had just enough snow in it to get that look without being distracting. Oh, and having the amazing this red coat was a requirement. This shoot happened on her birthday (happy birthday!) and I couldn't think of a better way to spend it, though I'm a little biased 😂

Cali, with a photo from an impromptu and unexpected portion of our shoot together. A huge thanks to .collective for designing such amazing spaces for us to work with.

This meetup with was an absolute blast. Not only because she is SUPER to work with, but also because she was able to sport a couple of outfits from a local designer and she absolutely rocked them!
But she WANTED to! And that, imo, is what's important. Portraits can look good with a nice designer outfit or sweats and a hoody. If you love it and it makes you feel comfortable, almost anything can look good.

Peyton, on film
This is from a while ago. I've shot so many rolls of film that I'm still getting processed. My hope is to find a film stock that I really gel with (one B&W and one color) that I really gel with. Then stick with that, at least mostly. I don't think this one is it, but I did like this portrait.

.modeling on film
Specifically Kodak Gold 200 shot on a Canon F-1. A camera witch, quite frankly, still needs to be sent in for servicing. Despite these being my first attempt at portraits on film, I'm happy with how they turned out.
It's funny, you can know the technical side of something so well, but for me dealing with the nuances of film is definitely a new adventure. But that's one of the reasons why I'm so interested in it.

When you want your portrait to feel like something out of a magazine, I'll be waiting. By the way this was not a planned portrait either. These were guests at a wedding that I sat in front of a window. They put their trust in me, I hope you'll do the same.
And no this did not require a ton of editing, filters, or lighting masks. It just took knowing where to put them. And knowing how to work with that.
Can't wait to see how they turn out. And how badly I messed up forgetting to have like 4 of them hand checked through TSA 🙃

If I'm being honest, Bella's senior photos are the some of the photos I've been looking forward to reposting ever since I started to redo my portfolio. My work up to this point has always felt reactionary: how do I want to edit THIS photo, THIS session. I would try things, maybe color grading one time or a different look another.
But these portraits prove to me that you don't need crazy editing to make a gorgeous photo. Simplicity is often times more important. And I think that's what I've tried to focus on with my updated work. Letting a consistent, simple, clean look take point so that each portrait can shine in its own unique way, while still being part of a consistent body of work.
And let's be honest the lighting we got during this moment in the session was absolutely to die for 🫠🤩

I'll bet you couldn't get guess that the theme for this shoot was music vibes...
