Yesterday’s Domaine Joseph Roty tasting ✨
Ten wines to showcase one producer.
By tasting the wines side-by-side, we explored how site, vintage, vine age, and winemaking decisions shape the final wine. Roty’s lineup is particularly fascinating because the domaine has spent decades stubbornly ignoring trends, continuing to make structured, concentrated wines built for aging.
We tasted there through the Pinot Blanc Bourgogne Blanc to old-vine Marsannay, Gevrey-Chambertin, grand cru bottlings, and even the Cuvée Tres Vieilles Vignes (145 year old vines). This tasting was a reminder that Burgundy is the epitome of art — the goal is expression of place and each year paints a different picture.
Thank you to everyone who attended our tasting yesterday and look forward to more classes (of varying subjects) that will be announced soon!
More geeking out to come 🤓

Tonight’s sold-out Wine Club tasting features Domaine Joseph Roty, Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy.
The 11th-generation family domaine remains unapologetically traditional: deeply extracted wines, serious tannic structure, plenty of concentration, and enough new oak to support significant aging. These are not wines chasing trends but rather old school in style.
The estate is still very much a family affair, with Pierre-Jean Roty working alongside his mother, sister, wife, and soon the next generation. Most of the vineyards are over 50 years old, while the legendary Très Vieilles Vignes Charmes-Chambertin traces its origins back to vines planted in 1881! 145 year old vines!
The Bourgogne Blanc is deliberately made from Pinot Blanc rather than Chardonnay, while new oak is used sparingly, if at all, on the white wines or rosé.
Tonight we’ll be pouring several back vintages including the Très Vieilles Vignes Charmes-Chambertin from 145 year old vines.
One of the perks of being in the club. 🍷

🌳 Crisp, refreshing, thirst quenching white wines: there’s way more than Sauvignon Blanc. There’s a whole world of wine out there—try something new. Life is too short to drink boring wine.
🍏Here’s some of my favorites:
Albariño
Grüner Veltliner
Melon de Bourgogne
Picpoul
Arneis
Assyrtiko
Hondarrabi Zuri
Vermentino
Cortese
Chenin Blanc
Godello
Aligoté
Sylvaner
Müller-Thurgau
Chasselas
Kerner
Falanghina
Garganega
Pinot Blanc
And I’m a big fan of Project Pat, Three Six Mafia and Bob Ross. Drink a glass of crispy white with any of these and it’ll be a good time.
Honestly, my life is really good despite dealing with the most bu****it disease: ALS. There’s no treatment or any medication for ALS that will make any difference in this terminal disease. But, if you do ask me how I’m doing, I’m going to say I’m doing good, because I honestly am. You get to decide how you perceive your reality and you can focus on gratitude for what you have or you can focus on whats missing. It’s really that simple.
I’m Sally, and together with Steven , we run Denver Wine Merchant. We pour our hearts and souls into what we do and it is a dream to get own and operate our dream wine shop.
I don’t like to talk about ALS all the time because it’s not the focus of my life, it’s just an aspect.
I try to keep things light without ignoring the reality. My goal is to show that you can still have a beautiful life, even if it looks completely different than what you expected. The truth is I am really lucky.
Thank you for reading this and thank you to everyone who supports our shop and content. I’m thankful for you! 🫶🏻
