We recently attended a Lunch & Learn with 5280 Floors and learned an important tip about radiant heat and hardwood floors.

Manufacturers recommend no more than a 2° temperature change within 24 hours. Larger swings can dry out wood flooring and lead to cupping, face checking, and excessive gaps.

We also learned about Fidbox in-floor sensors, which sit beneath the wood and record daily temperature and humidity levels for 5–6 years—helping protect builders and homeowners from costly flooring claims

BURR! ❄️ The darker the blue, the colder the surface. In this infrared image, you can clearly see the vertical stud pattern—but notice it’s not deep blue. That’s because this home is wrapped in continuous exterior insulation, which helps prevent heat loss through the framing.⁠

In a conventionally code-built house without continuous insulation, these studs would show up much colder. You can also see how the windows are performing—cool, but not excessively so. The darkest blue along the sill is actually snow sitting outside, which is exactly what “cold” is supposed to look like here.
