Why I'm Running ...
My wife, Samantha, and I were born and raised in Commerce City. We met while attending Adams City High School in 1985 and were married in 1990. We raised our family in Tichy and River Run. I decided to run for city council because I envision a city where one can open a business, enjoy active and family-friendly neighborhoods while raising our children and grandchildren in a safe community
Commerce City is evolving into a great and livable city. However, we are at cross-roads. This election will determine whether we continue building a strong economic base and beautiful neighborhoods or, stall progress limiting our great potential.
Like other cities in the Front Range, Commerce City has challenges that could threaten our future. I'm no stranger to public service. I worked in the Commerce City Street Maintenance for 10 years. Then served 16 years as a council member and mayor. Now I have decided to run again for city council to help foster thoughtful, constructive conversation not contentious, divisive dialogue that only stops momentum and prosperity.
When the pandemic hit a year and half ago, it challenged our health, economy, and basic way of life. The toll on our city will take years to fully understand but we have a chance to elect proven leaders who can build upon the foundations of our past and current successes.
I want to use my knowledge of city management and budgeting, land use and zoning gleaned from years of elected service on city council and as mayor, to keep us moving forward. On Council, I promise to work hard for:
1. Healthy and safe community. Address increased crime and homelessness.
2. Pandemic recovery and maintaining essential city services. Promote long-term financial stability with sustainable, equitable economic and job opportunities for all.
3. Smart and Balanced Land Use Policy. Encourage quality neighborhoods and housing for all while improving our streets to get us to work, school and family gatherings safer and faster.
I am most proud of the many significant achievements we have had while serving. Playing key roles in shaping great neighborhoods from the Mile High Greyhound Park redevelopment, the building of Bison Ridge recreation center and making improvements on the existing recreation center. I voted to keep police pay above the area average which helps to fully staff and retain the department for a safer community.
Let's work together to remove unnecessary barriers and improve our community. Vote November 2nd for an experienced leader with the vision to keep Commerce City thriving. I hope you will join me in that effort.
