SAMPLE FLIP FRIDAY 144
Pulled this sample from my stash of tracks that I ripped years ago. And I either flipped it and never finished it, or pulled it pre this challenge and never went back to it.
I love these classic soul chops where a little bit of the vocals creep in and get cut off. This one had some pretty cool drums in the sample as well so I built my drums around it and left a little more space. Loving the bounce on this one.
Let me know what you think!
SAMPLE FLIP FRIDAY 142
Not gonna lie. I’m exhausted from broadcast set up yesterday. Headed back in a few hours for the soccer game so I had to knock this out quick this morning.
Started one with no drums and some loops. And figured I’d cut it up a little more and add some drums.
Add in the special filtered bass trick to speed up the work flow and knock this weeks video out.
It’s been a couple weeks since I posted one of these… and that’s actually a good sign.
Last time I disappeared, I felt stuck.
This time it’s the opposite — I’ve been slammed with real work.
Music project that’s pushing me to learn new skills.
Finished a 10-track sync album.
Back with Sounds True.
Creative bootcamp.
TV this week for USA vs Japan.
And yeah… social media and even music took a backseat for a minute.
But I keep thinking about this idea:
Not everything is glass. Some things are plastic.
Some stuff you have to keep in the air.
Some stuff you can set down for a bit.
Right now I’m focused on deadlines, contracts, and the projects actually moving things forward.
And it’s starting to work…
I set a monthly income goal and I’m really close to locking that in.
Got a record label interview next week too 🤞
Curious—what’s “glass” for you right now?
SAMPLE FLIP FRIDAY 142
Got a couple busy weeks ahead so I need to get ahead of these.
Finally taking the time to listen to these dollar bin classical records for these hidden samples.
If you are looking to join next week and flip something from my record collection drop a comment!
Had to prove it…
Same beat, but this time I’m playing the chops live over the acapella.
Still sounds like it was made for Nas.
Boom bap heads know.
Sample Flip Friday 141 🎛️
Chopped this piano up and slowed it way down…
ended up in a full Illmatic type pocket.
Boom bap heads will feel this one.
I think Nas would sound crazy on this…
You want to hear it? 👇
What song would you want played at your funeral?
I kept this sample instead of sending it to my Sample Flip Friday group… and it turned into something I’ve been thinking about for years.
A song you could update over time with everything you’d want to say.
This is the first one.
Funeral out now. Link in bio.
What song would you choose?
SAMPLE FLIP FRIDAY 140
Really like this sample but the drums where a little much to chop around. So I tried out Ableton 12s new stem separator.
The future is sweet.
I was looking for some drums to see which style to take this in and I found this kind of west coast drum loop. But then I figured I've been making a bunch of Larry June type beats, so I just pulled some drums off another beat I made last week. Layered the other drum break over top, tweaked the tempo and slapped this together.
