The tournament of champions is this Friday at !

We Mae Rob You ( and ) will be up against four other championship teams: Dennis, Names are Hard, 100 Years of Solid Tunes, and Which Witch. Who will emerge victorious? Will We Mae Rob You steal the night, or will another team prevail?

The name, We Mae Rob You, acknowledges that the improvisers on stage are part of a collective energy and experience that includes the audience, the tech professionals, the venue, and everyone else in the room. Together, we are all the “We.” The performers are Mae and Rob. And “You” recognizes once again the importance of the audience and everyone else. We find it odd that people sometimes feel threatened when we tell them, “We Mae Rob You.”

Oh man, another showcase is coming up, but I forgot to post my students from the last one! Help me make it up to them by attending the Improv Student Showcases this Sunday, March 15. Tickets at risecomedy.com.

The first picture above shows the nine Lovers’ Fishbowl team members who were in my Improv 501 (Advanced Character) class last term. We finally got a picture after forgetting to take one at their splendid showcase on January 19.

The second picture shows all ten Lovers’ Fishbowl members who just completed my Improv 601 (Ensemble) class where, among other things, we worked on a new form based on their name. Come see them perform in the 7pm block of the showcases this Sunday.

And the third picture…that’s my Improv 401 (Pattern & Heightening) students, otherwise known as Some Assembly Required, who will also be performing this Sunday. You can catch them in the 5pm block. Most of them took Improv 101 with me, so it was great to reconnect with them and see how they’ve grown!

And, hey, come take a class with me in the next term at . Or I teach an ongoing acting class online, if you’re interested.

I’m thankful to be a part of the Rise Comedy community. It makes me want to have a party.

It’s been over twenty years since I’ve had a proper birthday party. This one comes with a potluck, an improv jam, and some karaoke. If you’re in Denver and we know one another, you’re invited (or if we don't know each other but should meet, you're invited).

Thanks for the help with the party, Chris .j.hillcomedy and and Marcus.

And speaking of and improv, I’ll be teaching Improv 401 on Sundays starting January 25 and Improv 601 on Tuesdays starting January 27. Sign up at risecomedy.com.

It’s that time of year again when the annual Rise Comedy Cup returns to Denver’s .

Next Saturday and Sunday, December 13 and 14, twenty teams of four-players each will be pitted against each other in a bracketed two-day competition of improvisational insanity. Your new favorite team, Parking Lot Puppies, will be there barking out comedic bits that make you howl with laughter.

Who’s a good boy? The Parking Lot Puppies are four adorable doggos in need of loving homes! Will one or all of them be chosen from their cardboard box and leave the parking lot with a caring audience member? You’ll have to show up to find out.

Tickets are available at risecomedy.com.

Sometimes you have a group of improv students who arrive in the room everyday in a way that lets you not only get through every lesson, but also gives time to sometimes let them do an exercise again with small adjustments that help focus them further on an improv concept. That focus from this class really paid off in their Improv 101 class showcase last night!

I was thrilled not only by Cheese Planet’s 101 set, but also by the feedback afterward from some of the improvisers in the audience. What a supportive and inspiring ensemble!

Congratulations to Beau, Mauricio, Dan, Charlie, Harrison, Josh, Kofi, Agustin, Abigail, Richie, Rich, Gary, and Sidney!
