st me. It is not impossible to negotiate through this period in your life. I know because I have done it! My story is one that may be similar to yours in the future. I have been married to my best friend since April 1978. Jim and I have two children who are now grown and making their own paths in life. I was a stay-at-home mom for many years when they were young but like so many of you went back to work part-time when they were older to help with expenses. I worked in the banking industry during that time which morphed into full-time management as the children grew. In 2002 we moved back from Arizona to my home state of Texas in order to help take care of my elderly parents. At that time I also felt it was time to take a step back from the banking industry and re-evaluate my life. I began another part-time job helping a local businessman begin an independent insurance agency. It was fun and exciting to watch something small grow and succeed. I also was able to take the time to care for my parents. In 2008 my sweet mother went home to the Lord. This changed my life in a huge way. But the most relevant change was that I began to really spend a lot of time caring for my dad. For the next six years I talked to him everyday and spent 2 or more days a week at his house. I love my dad and truly treasure the time I had with him. I would not hand that privilege to my siblings if my life depended on it. But it was draining and I wondered at times who would go first, him or me?! I spent a lot of time in prayer and just really seeking God and His grace during this time. At one point it was almost as if God audibly asked me, "What will you do when this season is over?" I knew that my dad would die but what would I do when he did. I thought of a lot of different things. A lot of my thought process was based on what would make other people proud of me or happy. But I needed to figure out the big question....What would give ME real joy? I realized that one of the things I really like is to collaborate with other people on finding the solution to a problem. After more searching (Google is great, isn't it?) I realized I wanted to be a life coach. So, in 2014 when my amazing dad went to join my mom, I began looking for the right school for me. I received my training at the Christian Coach Institute and am truly blessed and excited to be able to use my talent and training to work with you as you build your own story negotiating all the twists and turns of your life.

Jon Kabat-Zinn is the creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic. I completely agree with his quote. We can't change the fact that things are going to happen in life.
