UNT Opera Presents: Lisa DeSpain and David Simpatico’s That Hellbound Train! 🚂 🔥
Martin, an orphan and wanderer makes a bargain with The Conductor of That Hellbound
Train. I exchange for his soul; Martin asks for the power to stop time and live forever in a
moment of his choosing – a moment of perfect happiness. Is happiness found in a dry cot
ad a bottle of muscatel? A series of one-night stands? Is it the moment Martin meets his
wife or holds his newborn son in his arms? Is happiness found in wealth, power, status, or
the arms of a mistress?
That Hellbound Train asks, if you had the power to stop time and live forever in a moment of
perfect happiness, in a lifetime of moments, which one would you choose? Or would you?
