Odessa Fire Rescue has lost a brother today. Lieutenant Isai Huerta was killed in a structure fire today.
At 4:59 p.m., Odessa Fire Rescue crews responded to a residential trailer fire in the 1900 block of South Westcliff Road. While firefighters were operating on scene, conditions deteriorated rapidly, resulting in injuries to three firefighters.
All three firefighters were transported to Medical Center Hospital for treatment. Tragically, one firefighter succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The fallen firefighter has been identified as 29-year-old Lieutenant Isai Huerta, who faithfully served the citizens of Odessa as a member of Odessa Fire Rescue for the past nine years. His next of kin has been notified.
"Isai was a huge part of our organization, a true firefighter," said Odessa Fire Rescue Chief Jason Cotton. "He was always happy, always willing to help, and he truly enjoyed the job. Our department is in need of prayer, guidance, and grace as we navigate moving forward. We grieve alongside Isai's family and ask our community to keep them and our firefighters in their thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

Big shoutout to Sherman Fire - Rescue for having a double grab fire. When you invest in training for your members it pays dividends for the citizens!

City Council recognized the heroes of a house fire where two residents were rescued from a second story window. Great job A-Shift!!

We had another successful day of learning at Day 2 of The Art of Reading Smoke lecture. More than 80 attendees from departments across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma joined us to expand their knowledge and sharpen their skills.

We were proud to host this outstanding training opportunity and greatly appreciate everyone's support in making it a success.

Reminder/Update for The Art of Reading Smoke Class on the 28th and 29th!

This is a great opportunity to learn from one of the best! The class will be held in the Center for Workplace Learning (CWL) classroom. Parking will be located on the west side of the building in the west parking lot. A map with the parking area highlighted in yellow will be posted below. Class will begin at 8am so arrive earlier to allow for parking and checking in.

🚨 STRUCTURE FIRE 🚨

This afternoon your Professional Firefighters of Sherman were dispatched to a two story house fire with multiple victims trapped. First arriving units arrived to reports of two victims in an upstairs bedroom with heavy fire on first floor. Truck 81 was able to rescue both victims from the window and they were transported to the hospital where they are currently critical but stable. Engine 84 was able to rapidly knock down the fire, greatly assisting in rescue efforts.

The success of this operation was only possible because of the hard work and dedication of our members and the support we continually receive from our city staff and our great citizens.
