Is the PSA test really the best way to screen for prostate cancer? Not by itself. A high PSA is suspicious, but it can be raised by many ordinary things, including an enlarged prostate, an infection, even a recent bike ride, so on its own it can't tell you whether a biopsy is truly needed. The screening pathway is evolving to answer that question more precisely.
How Prostate Cancer Screening is Evolving - Sperling Prostate Center A high PSA used to mean an automatic biopsy but the screening pathway has changed. Today, mpMRI and biomarkers give doctors and patients far more accurate information before any needle is involved.
