A FRIDAY POWER LUNCHEON FOR WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS! (VIRTUAL & IN PERSON) 05/09/2021

Our minds are our most powerful tool but unfortunately, they don’t come with instructions.

Because of this, we’re sometimes left with problematic programming. This can stop us taking the actions we deeply desire to.

The actions we take or don’t take are based on what we feel about a situation

This is crucial to understand because our thoughts create our emotions, and emotions are the #1 motivator of what actions we take (or avoid taking).

This Friday, May 14th I’ll be speaking at the Empowerment Empire’s “Business Women of Diversity Luncheon” on few strategies to reprogram your brain to take the actions you desire to.

Sneak peek: It starts with silencing any thoughts telling you that you can’t or shouldn’t 😉

When I did my first ever coaching certification program in 2018, the woman sitting next to me said “you can’t eat an elephant in one bite.”

That metaphor has stuck with me to this day.

Big goals are built up of mini goals along the way.

When you focus one one “bite” at a time, they scary factor of going after big goals goes down by like 90%, at least in my experience (and in many of my clients experience too 😊) 🐘

A few weeks ago when I asked what content around Emotional Intelligence you wanted to see, someone messaged me this. I thought it was so relatable, I wanted to answer it in my feed. ⁣

If your emotions are too strong, it’s actually good to put some distance between yourself and whatever you’re feeling. If you open up to them at their peak, they can be super distressing.⁣

For example if you know you have to give a presentation after lunch, and the self-doubt starts to creep in, and then you start to feel super anxious. ⁣

That might not be the best time to address them. That could send you down a spiral or thinking about why you think you’re not going to do well. ⁣

Go for walk, listen to so music, try some breathing exercising. Remember they physiology part of the emotion will only last 90 seconds. ⁣

If you DON’T think that the emotions are too strong and you’re comfortable addressing it, then think of some evidence of why you are going to do well. ⁣

When was a time you crushed a presentation? ⁣

When was another time you did something you were nervous about but still crushed it? ⁣

It doesn’t have to be work related. Maybe when you stood up on a surfboard? ⁣

EVERYONE has a time in their life where they thought they wouldn’t be able to do something, but they did it anyway. ⁣

Everyone has moments their proud of. ⁣

Connect with the feelings from those moments. ⁣

Then later, you can look into what triggered your original stress response. ⁣

Maybe you were thinking about some negative feedback you got last time? Whatever it is you can work on bringing awareness to what’s triggering those feelings, and then work on healing those triggers. ⁣

When our goal is to avoid criticism (both external and internal), we are not fully able grow.

When we avoid criticism at all cost, our primary objective becomes protecting ourselves, rather than learning.

By learning to trust yourself, you can build your self-confidence, reduce your stress and even make decisions quicker.

We generally experience our emotions through our bodies. We literally feel them.⁣

Your body may feel heavy when you’re sad. Jittery when you’re nervous. Tense when you’re anxious.⁣

There are also localized sensations associated with certain emotions, like the lump in your throat you get when you’re about to cry. Butterflies in your stomach when you’re nervous. Heart palpitations when you’re anxious.⁣

If you’re able to calm the physical expression of your emotions, your emotions tend to calm down and feel less intense. ⁣

If you’re feeling angry, for example, and your blood pressure is elevated, you have a lot of pent-up energy, to regulate that emotion you need to calm the physiological response.⁣

You can: ⁣
1. Slow down your breathing (my personal fav. is square breathing!)⁣
2. Do something active (i.e. go on a walk)⁣
3. Growl! Yell! Scream! Let it out. (Of course be mindful of the setting). ⁣

You might not always be able to control how you feel, but you can control how you respond that feeling. ⁣

Let me know if you’d like tips for regulating any other specific emotions!
