Alhamdulillah, Asmara kept her first Roza on the first Friday of this Ramadan. It was such a special moment for us. We had actually planned to celebrate it with Ami almost like a big celebration Roza Khushai. I was so happy thinking that Ami would be here with us and I would get to relive those beautiful moments just like the Ramadans I spent with her before my wedding waking up together for Sehri and sitting side by side for Suhoor and Iftar.

I was already excited imagining how Asmara and Hur would experience that festive atmosphere during Suhoor but Ami left us.

This year’s Ramadan feels very different. It has been a little over 40 days since Ami left us and there is a quiet emptiness that is hard to explain. All my life I never realized how much her presence was the light of our home and our lives. Now even a room full of lights feels dim and even in a room full of people there is a strange loneliness.

We siblings never imagined a life without her.

When we lost our father years ago it was very painful but Ami stood like a rock for all of us. She protected us, guided us and filled our lives with warmth and strength.

We celebrated Asmara’s first Roza by giving charity donating money and feeding those in need. When I asked Asmara about it she was very happy knowing it was for charity.

Even though ami is not with us now I know her love and prayers are still around us.

This year feels different… softer and happier. Having Ami with me is a blessing my heart can feel every day. We are not only celebrating her birthday but also her time with us, her presence, her love 💕
