One word... two meanings!
One of the most confusing Urdu words for kids growing up abroad is گرمی (garmi).
Depending on the context, it can mean heat, while گرمیاں (garmiyan) refers to the summer season. Once children understand the difference, they’ll start using both naturally in conversations!
Here are a few extra examples to practice at home:
🗣️ آج بہت گرمی ہے۔
Aaj bohat garmi hai.
➡️ It’s very hot today.
🗣️ مجھے گرمی لگ رہی ہے۔
Mujhe garmi lag rahi hai.
➡️ I feel hot.
🗣️ گرمیوں میں ہم پارک جاتے ہیں۔
Garmiyon mein hum park jatay hain.
➡️ We go to the park in summer.
🗣️ گرمیوں میں بچے آئس کریم کھاتے ہیں۔
Garmiyon mein bachay ice cream khatay hain.
➡️ Children eat ice cream in summer.
🗣️ گرمیوں کی چھٹیاں ختم ہو گئیں۔
Garmiyon ki chuttiyan khatam ho gayi hain.
➡️ Summer vacation is over.

We spent the day exploring Fancyburg Park, and my kids were ready to stay until sunset! From exciting climbing structures and fun slides to a peaceful nature inspired play area, every corner brought a new adventure💚
