UPDATE:
Travel is allowed again between US and Mexico for pets from the CDC and the USDA. There are new requirements for returning to the US, though. These are listed in the comments below. The dilemma an owner may have is whether or not Mexico is allowing pets to go from the US to Mexico. That is something you all would need to find out from Mexico. We have not seen any updated posts allowing pets from the US into Mexico again.

Here is a post for those owners that travel to and from Mexico with their pets. This is where Del Rio is going have issues. We have many owners that to travel back and forth with their pets. We will try to find out the full details of the changes coming.

Original post:
This is a picture from the USDA. Again, we will try to figure out the details. It seems to already be in effect. Definitely do your research before crossing with your pets. Dogs are listed as part of the animals that can not return from Mexico.

UPDATE:

Corrected post to help alleviate fears and to pass along information from the FDA.

We have had many people asking about the New World Screwworm cases recently found near us. You are more than welcome to call the clinic and we can try to answer questions as we have the answers.

The big thing is to report anything that you think is suspicious with your pet.

The treatment and prevention is actually easy, and many of you are already treating your pets with the recommended medications.

For Dogs:

Credelio (specifically the ingredient lotilaner) Quattro (conditional approval for TREATMENT and prevention)

Nexgard (ingredient: afoxolaner) approved as emergency use medication for TREATMENT of infestations)

The ingredients that are in Credelio Quattro and Nexgard are similar to what is in Simparica Trio and Bravecto. They are not “approved for conditional use or emergency use approval” by the FDA, but the ingredients that end in laner are in both of these medications. That means there is a possibility that it will also TREAT screwworm infestations.

I am simply telling everyone that your pet should be fine on these medications. If you prefer to go with nexgard, we carry it at the clinic. We do not carry Credelio Quattro.

Capstar is approved for both cats and dogs for TREATMENT.

For Cats:

Credelio CAT is approved for treatment.

Nexgard combo is approved for treatment.

We hope this helps with your question and concerns.
