Processors Note: every year we field dress 20 to 30 deer. Some hunters may frown on not gutting your own deer, but it’s actually a pretty smart way to handle your meat if you don’t have water accessible.
This evening we had a Hunter that shot his deer later in the evening and it was dark by the time he found it.. He didn’t want to field dress it in the dark so he bought it to us. Yes, we charge a fee,l however, most people do not know that you’re welcome to field dress your deer yourself for no fee using our winch and water. I have no problem with that whatsoever. Its a win win for hunter and processor. Either way, you will get a cleaner product with less waist if the carcass is washed out. I can salvage all the rib meat on the inner ribs this way.
PROCESSORS NOTE:
Hey folks. I hope all of you are doing well and everybody had a good season. I wanted to touch on something that I think could help those of you who kill a trophy that you’re going to have shoulder-mounted.
In my experience, it’s a good idea to bring your kill to the processor first. The processor and the taxidermist have different goals. The taxidermist wants to preserve your memories. The processor wants you to eat your memories lol. That being said, there’s going to be more care taken in the skinning and cleaning of your animal from the processor
The taxidermist's goal is to get the hide off with no damage so they can mount your animal. The processor’s goal is to get you a clean, quality product that your family will enjoy., we’re going to wash the carcass right away and skin it right before we process it. We are going to make sure that your hide/cape gets to the taxidermist. We all work with the local taxidermist and we communicate with each other.
If you bring a skinned animal to the processor that wasn’t skinned or washed out correctly, all the hair and blood is going to be dried on the carcass by the time the processor gets to it. This means that we have to skin an entire layer of meat off the carcass. If you do this, I promise you will get a better return on the amount of meat you get back and you’ll save the processor time and the taxidermist time.
Thanks everybody who made the trip out here to rough Canyon. I know it’s out of the way, but we had a good season even though it felt like summertime. Hope to see you guys next year.

The males are finally on the beds. Crappie should be excellent for a while. 16 in under an hour. Just ran out of daylight

I had hoped to provide a crappie fishing report, but unfortunately, these weren’t crappie. These are male black bass fanning their beds. Big male Crappie should be starting to fan their nests soon, but if you're a bass fisherman, there were some nice fish in this group . I caught several. Ruthies Rentals has vacancies.
