On 06/09/2026 at approximately 1:55 p.m. officers from the Del Rio Police Department responded to the area of the Moore Park near 99 South Bedell Avenue for a suspicious person. The female caller reported she pepper sprayed a male subject who threatened to cause her harm.

Upon arrival, police met with the female caller who said she noticed the male following her at the park while she swam with family.

The female said the male ran towards her direction pointing two objects perceived as bladed weapons while making a verbal threat to cause her harm. The female told police she feared for her safety and pepper sprayed the male subject who left the area on foot.

Officers located the subject as he was attempting to wash away the spray residue from his face. As police attempted to detain the male, he began to flee on foot.

Police pursued the male on foot, upon approaching the male he began to kick, striking an officer’s leg resulting in pain and discomfort. Police subdued the male subject and took him under custody without further incidents.

The male subject identified as Nathan Wayne Medrano; 22 yrs. of age was arrested and charged with the offenses of Terroristic Threat Cause Fear of Imminent Serious Bodily Injury, Evading Arrest Detention, Assault Peace Officer / Judge, and Resisting Arrest Search or Transportation.

Medrano was transported to the police station where he was processed and was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.

06/10/2026

On June 7th, 2026, at 6:52 p.m. officers from the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 300 block of West Martinez for a Burglary call.

Upon arrival, officers encountered two male subjects arguing, the males were separated and identified by police.

One of the males was identified as the property owner, who told police he arrived at his vacant residence and noticed an opened door. Upon further inspection he located the unwanted male inside his residence. The property owner told police both engaged in a verbal altercation that led to the outside of the residence.

Police inspected the residence and located damage to a door. Police learned the screen door and glass door had been damaged by the suspect to gain entry.

Additionally, a kitchen knife had been removed from the kitchen area and was later located outside of the residence. Police placed the male subject under arrest for the offense of Burglary of a Building.

A search of his person revealed a clear baggie containing crystal-like substance. The substance was tested, yielding positive results for methamphetamine.

The male identified as David Anthony Bejarano; 44 yrs. of age was arrested and charged with the offenses of Burglary of a Building, Criminal Mischief >$750 < $2,500 and Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1/1-B

On May 30, 2026, at approximately 11:11 p.m., officers with the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 2100 block of Veterans Boulevard regarding two suspicious males. The caller reported that one of the individuals had been seen carrying what appeared to be a firearm.

Upon arrival, officers observed both subjects leaving the area in a black passenger vehicle and traveling southbound on Veterans Boulevard. The vehicle stopped shortly thereafter in the 2000 block of Veterans Boulevard.

Officers contacted the occupants and advised them of the reason for the investigation. During the encounter, officers observed what appeared to be a handgun in the passenger-side door compartment. For officer safety, both occupants were asked to exit the vehicle while the weapon was secured. Upon inspection, the firearm was determined to be a BB gun.

While speaking with the occupants, officers observed an open container of an alcoholic beverage and multiple syringes in plain view on the vehicle’s floorboard. One of the syringes was uncapped and contained a dark-colored liquid substance.

Both subjects were detained pending further investigation. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of additional drug paraphernalia, including a spoon containing brown residue, another syringe, and a small plastic baggie containing a brown-black tar-like substance. Field testing of the substance yielded a positive result for he**in.

As a result of the investigation, Jonathan Elizeo Barron, 26 years of age, and Jose Herrera, 47 years of age, were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1/1-B, Less Than One Gram, a state jail felony.

Barron and Herrera were transported to the Del Rio Police Department for booking and processing before being transferred to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.

Man Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges Following Domestic Violence Investigation and Vehicle Assault

On May 29th, 2026, at approximately 11:45 p.m. officers from the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 1600 block of Veterans Blvd. in reference to a disturbance. The caller identified as Luis Abel Hernandez said he was following an ex- household member claiming she was driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Upon arrival police located both vehicles involved in a car crash. Police had recently responded to a call for service at the 100 block of Encinal Street where Hernandez forced entry into the residence. Witnesses at the scene reported Hernandez removed several cellphones and caused bodily injury to a female prior to leaving the scene.

Police learned Hernandez had an active Emergency Protective Order prohibiting him from committing any acts of violence towards the household members. Hernandez was placed under arrest for violating the court order.

A search of his person revealed a vile containing green leafy substance believed to be ma*****na. A search of his vehicle revealed small baggie of crystal-like substance.

Investigation at the scene indicated Hernandez struck the female’s vehicle two times causing the vehicles to collide; placing the female in fear of serious bodily injury or death.

Hernandez was transported to the police station for booking and processing. Once at the police station the green leafy substance was tested yielding negative results for ma*****na. The crystal-like substance was also tested, resulting positive for co***ne.

Luis Abel Hernandez, 34 years of age was arrested and charged with the offenses of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (2 counts), Possession of Controlled Substance, Assault causes Bodily Injury and Violation of Bond/ Protective Order (4 counts).

Hernandez was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility, pending magistration process.

05/31/2026

On May 23, 2026, at approximately 9:34 a.m., a Del Rio Police Department officer was patrolling the area of East Gutierrez Street when he observed a motorcycle being operated on a public roadway without a license plate as required by law.

The officer recognized the driver as Rene S. Garcia, 31 years of age, and knew Garcia had an active felony warrant issued by the Val Verde County Sheriff's Office for Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1/1-B, 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams.

The officer activated the emergency lights on his patrol vehicle in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. Garcia stopped the motorcycle in the 300 block of East Gutierrez Street and began walking toward the front door of a residence. Despite multiple verbal commands to stop, Garcia refused to comply and fled on foot eastbound.

During the pursuit, the officer deployed his department-issued TASER; however, it was ineffective. Garcia was subsequently apprehended near the intersection of Gutierrez Street and Contreras Street without further incident.

Garcia was taken into custody on the outstanding felony warrant and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention. He was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing, where a computerized criminal history check revealed a prior conviction for Evading Arrest or Detention. As a result, the current charge was enhanced.

Garcia was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Previous Conviction and was later transferred to the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.

With heavy hearts, we share the devastating news of the passing of former Senior Officer Joseph Toro. Joseph was more than a police officer — he was a friend, a source of laughter, and a compassionate presence within our department and community. His kindness, infectious smile, and dedication to serving others left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
