The Encinitas City Council voted unanimously to form a committee that will study where the city can add more skateboarding features in its parks and on other properties.

The group will include five community members, two council members, two Parks & Recreation Commission members, and a city parks employee. Residents with hands-on skating experience or design knowledge are encouraged to apply.

Encinitas already has skate facilities at three parks, including its main one in Encinitas Community Park, known to users as "Poods Park." The committee idea grew out of a push to add a skate bowl at Cardiff's Glen Park, which drew strong opposition from neighbors over noise. Council members stressed the committee's focus will be citywide.

The council picks the five members June 10, and the group aims to deliver a final report with proposals and cost estimates this fall.

Holland Partner Group is on track to finish The Torrey in June, a $440M, 34-floor apartment tower in downtown San Diego with 450 units built on the former San Diego Superior Court site.
