Kol Hadash Humanistic Congregation
We provide opportunities to create and celebrate a meaningful Jewish life. Kol Hadash has grown steadily since our founding in 2001.
Kol Hadash is a vibrant and inclusive Jewish Community known for “Doing Jewish Differently" by replacing worship with human knowledge, responsibility and action. Kol Hadash Humanistic Congregation is the only full-service Humanistic Jewish congregation in the Chicago area. As a result, we draw members from Chicago to Libertyville and Gurnee, from Naperville to Deerfield and Highland Park. Rabbi Ad

What a year! 🌟
At Kol Hadash, we ""do Jewish differently."" Our school isn't about rote memorization—it’s a place where kids are encouraged to question everything. We focus on Jewish history, ethics, and culture, empowering students to build an identity rooted in human responsibility and reason. ✡️✨
Here are a few of our favorite moments. Thank you to our amazing teachers and families for a year of curiosity, growth, and community!
Kids actually want to come to class! ✨
At Kol Hadash, we’ve swapped the ""dread"" for discovery. Our Sunday School is a place where kids feel seen, heard, and excited to explore their Jewish identity—no hiding required!
Experience a different kind of Jewish education where kids actually want to be. ✡️🙌

✡️ Happy Jewish American Heritage Month! ✡️
They say there are 16 million Jews in the world—and that means there are at least 16 million ways to be Jewish. Whether it’s through tradition, food, social justice, or community, your story is part of our shared heritage.
We want to hear from you:
✨ How do you "do" Jewish?
✨ When do you feel most connected to your identity?

Can we respect our Jewish ancestors without following every tradition?
The answer is honesty. Just like a mature relationship with a parent, we can love our heritage while acknowledging where we disagree.
It is, after all, our life to live. ✨

💪It’s the Secular Week of Action! 🌎
You don't need faith to make a difference. This week is a call to put our values into motion and prove that good happens when we work together.
Humanism is more than just a philosophy—it’s about showing up for our neighbors, protecting our planet, and building a more compassionate world through reason and empathy.
How can you take action this week? Let’s turn our "deeds over creeds" and make an impact! ✨

What’s the latest from the Middle East?
With war in Iran and Lebanon, anti-Palestinian pogroms in the West Bank, and elections looming by October, Israel’s current government has stayed in power—but the landscape has shifted forever. From Gaza to the global conversation on Zionism, the Jewish world feels radically different.
Join our online Shabbat service as we mark Israeli Memorial and Independence Days, reflecting on the current situation what may come next.

The starting salary is $50-60k depending on experience and capabilities.
The Administrator position requires the skills to do around half of the responsibilities in the same Executive Director Job Description, but only ~15-20 hours per week, with at least three hours twice a week in the office. The starting salary is $25-30k depending on experience and capabilities.
If you are interested in either position, please contact Kol Hadash Steering Committee Chair Andrea Friedlander at [email protected] with a resume and letter of interest.
Job Posting - Kol Hadash Fifteen years ago, we were immensely fortunate that one of our members recommended Jeremy Owens for our vacant Administrator position. His skill and humor and commitment have been invaluable for our congregation. Jeremy recently informed us that he is moving on to focus on his creative pursuits in w...
