The SpaceX IPO is everywhere right now, and the questions have started. Can you get me in? How do I buy shares?

In his latest piece, Ben Beck, CFP® reframes the question. The fear usually isn't about missing the investment. It's about missing the story, and not wanting to feel left behind.

He gets into why the "boring" approach tends to win, and what the investors who build lasting wealth have in common.

Some people become financial advisors because they're good with numbers.

Peter became one because of ten phone calls he made after his mother passed away.

A family that looked whole from the outside had been held together by nearly $60,000 in credit card debt no one knew about. His father didn't know how to handle it. His mother had left behind a $20,000 life insurance policy.

So Peter started calling. One credit card company at a time.

Now that we've had time to process the Celtics elimination from the NBA playoffs…

There's actually a lot it can teach us about our finances. Being up 3-1 felt like a sure thing. And then it wasn't.

That same pattern shows up in financial planning more than you'd think. In this week's essay, our managing partner Ben Beck breaks down three lessons the Celtics loss can teach us about staying disciplined when it matters most.

Your 401k knows your balance. It does not know your goals, your dreams, or how both will change along the way.

Enough is not a number you stumble into. It is a plan you can see, built around the life you actually want and written down so it holds when the headlines get loud, the road gets rough, or the unforeseeable becomes real.

That is where the real work comes in.

Not guessing at the market, but knowing your goals and the plan built to fuel them.

Great hitters don't swing at everything.

Investing works the same way. The disciplined investors wait for the right pitch, hold their stance, and let the count work in their favor.

Ben Beck, CFP®'s first essay in his new baseball series. Part One: Know the Count, is now on the blog.

Financial literacy isn't about being perfect with money.

It's about making small, consistent decisions that compound over time.

Ashley Cotler knows this better than most. She rebuilt her financial life from scratch after COVID wiped out her business the same week her second child was born.

These are three habits she actually uses to consider:

→ $81 extra to mortgage principal each month. $43,000 saved in interest over time.
→ Two separate high-yield savings accounts. One for emergencies. One for the costs you know are coming like planning for a vacation or home updates.
→ UTMA accounts for her kids funded by birthday and holiday money. $400 today could be $1,000+ by the time they're 18.

None of these are complicated. All of them are intentional.

The Long View: MAY 2026 05/24/2026

Memorial Day weekend invites the long view.

May arrives with momentum. Schedules fill. And for the first time in a while, there's a chance to look up.

May's edition of The Long View is worth a few minutes before the long weekend begins:

🔵 The opening of our new Portsmouth office!
🔵 The first essay in Ben Beck, CFP®'s new baseball series on the power of waiting for the right pitch, not swinging at every pitch.
🔵 And a Planning Corner conversation between Ben Beck, CFP® and Garrett Murphy, our Director of Tax Services, on what to do with your tax return now that it has been filed. One of the threads they kept coming back to: it is not the bill that upsets people. It is the surprise that can come after you file.
