Nobles Outing Club
Photos and trip reports of the Outing Club of Noble and Greenough School. For the majority of our trips, we invite faculty to join the fun!
For the history of the club, its founding and its early years, search the Bill Biddle page at https://biddlefund.info/ The Nobles Outdoor Program comprises two components: Outdoor Adventure and the Outing Club. Through these programs, we aim to develop safe practices, teach respect for the natural environment, and instill in students an appreciation for the lifelong enjoyment that comes from parti

A hike by 12 of us up Mt Moosilauke on Patriot's Day as part of a fundraiser for the Nobles Marathon Fund. Gorgeous day-- 30º temp, 3" of new snow, warm sun, and a bluebird sky. It doesn't get any better than this!!

Our traditional hike during the first days of winter vacation-- up Falling Waters Trail to Mt Little Haystack, then along Franconia Ridge to Mt Lincoln and Mt Lafayette, then down Old Bridle Path to complete the loop. An excellent day to be out and about....

3 faculty and 11 students took advantage of the faculty comment-writing day on Nov. 8th to hike the Champney Falls Trail up Mt Chocorua; glorious conditions on the summit– low 50s, no wind, dry rock, and a bluebird day. Pitcher Falls and Champney Cascades were in full flow, worth the detour. A great trip up until the moment of a slip, fall, and dislocated shoulder on the descent. Luckily we were able to hike out, albeit slowly and in some degree of discomfort. First real accident in 48 years of leading the Outing Club!

Two trips this fall (Oct. 11th, Nov. 7th) to one of our favorite loop hikes, the Mt Morgan - Mt Percival "caves and ladders" hike. Always a fun adventure!

The first non-local Outing Club hike in 19 months (we climbed Mt Chocorua on Feb 19, 2020)! It was great to get outside and scramble to the top of Mt Monadnock on such a gorgeous early Fall day (low 60s, cloudless sky, 15 mph winds). Another "Biddle Hike" in the books (what we call the first hike of each year in honor of the founder of the Nobles Outing Club, long-ago English teacher Bill Biddle, pictured below). May the Outing Club continue to offer such opportunities to our community.

Cramming 12 students into a school minibus in the fall of 2020 is not possible due to Covid-19, so the Outing Club has been sponsoring 2-hour hikes at our local Blue HIlls Reservation each weekend. The students meet us at Blue HIlls, everyone wears masks, we sit socially-distanced during breaks, and we get to enjoy the beautiful fall in New England, get outdoors for some healthy exercise, and enjoy the camaraderie of classmates.

Despite the sub-zero temperatures on MLK Monday, the Outing Club still managed to enjoy the outdoors with a scenic snowshoe trek along the Pemiwegasset River on the Lincoln Woods Trail. Everyone stayed warm with the proper clothing and gear.

Our traditional hike up Falling Waters Trail to Mt. Little Haystack and Franconia Ridge at the start of winter break, Dec. 19th. Part of the group made it to Mt. Lincoln despite the strong wind. Some great glissading on the trip down. (Pictures by Ben Heider)
