52 years ago, God did His thang, and I'm am grateful for His everlasting grace, mercy, favor, provision, and reckless love...this thing called life hasn't been easy by far, and even though at this big age I'm still figuring it out, I stand with confidence, resilience, and determination- knowing that in spite of it all "God Believes I'm the Woman for the Job". ....and the saga continues

Ok, I've made it home safely, and now that I have a steady internet connection, I wanted to share the most moving part of the trip besides feeding the children- our tour of Cape Coast Slave Castle, one of several used to hold captive, r**e, beat, and sell slaves 😤...I have several photos and plenty of videos footage as the guide was speaking so of course this is merely a preview of what we all should get a chance to see....

These are dungeons where they held slaves...males up to 1300 in one and 300 of the woman with only a small window for air and minutes of daylight 😭....very emotional hearing the stories and seeing those ships and rap houses.

This is the door of no return. It was the last door a slave would walk through before they completely lost their identity. Above it says: no return, but after the Obama's visit in 2009, where Michelle retraced her roots, they put door of return on the other side as if she was returning home. So we all went through and came back symbolically as if to say we've returned home. There's actually a sign on the wall that says Wakaaba, which means welcome. Believe it or not, right above the entrance of the castle, the British, who were Christians, would hold church while black people died right as they worshipped 😱 🤬 ...like how heartless 💔.
Oh, and because they were held in those dungeons for 3 months at a time after being sold, they have actual floors of 💩....

Needless to say, Monday was exhausting 😴. Nonetheless, I'm grateful for the experience of seeing firsthand what's been shared vaguely in public school curriculum.

As my trip to Ghana 🇬🇭 winds down, I would be remiss if I didn't shout out and thank some of the GENTLEMEN that took excellent care of me these past 9 days. I mean, I didn't have to iron, cook, carry a bag, fix a plate, nor pay for a meal. If I looked like I needed anything, they each immediately attended to it. I can honestly say I was amazed at the level of honor these men show ALL the women in their lives. Their culture (Muslim) dictates unity in family, love, forgiveness, honor, and respect, and these guys, along with a few others, wear their fruits of the spirit well. ....It has truly been a blessing to have met men of their stature.

Sunday, we took another road trip - this time to Cape Coast, which is the place where slaves were kept, r**ed, and sold along the Atlantic Ocean by the British & others. Along the journey, the view was pretty much the same...poverty living & grind to survive. The roads were equally bumpy as the trip to Kumasi, except upon arrival, we were greeted by family with a welcome dinner of Agushie, yams, rice, cabbage & shrimp gumbo, and a beef plate. The night ended with a warm ginger mixed tea meant to aid in digestion.....tomorrow (Monday), we visit the Cape Coast Slave Castle where many of our ancestors lost their true identity and gained their slave masters sir names. And because Jackson (my name) was either Scotland or British indicating my ancestors were forced to reproduce outside their original geology, I am very intrigued to hear the history of it all, so stay tune....XOXO, TJ

THE MAARI-BOWU FESTIVAL 2024- Saturday after flying back to Accra from Kumasi, we attended the Maari-Bowu Festival where kings and chiefs of varying tribes/regions were honored. My brother Cleo Asante, who is Chief of the Ashanti region, was among them. Cleo has been in my life for the past 12 years as the husband and king of my friend , as well as a spiritual mentor to me, so it was nothing short of an honor to be a part of such an occasion. Although Muslim is his born and bread religion, he knows both the both the Quran & Bible front and back, which makes him wish beyond his years....this was an unforgettable experience and I thank them both for having me.

Today in Kumasi, we fed the children, and I cried 😢.....those outside the gate did not get fed 😔....

We're flying back to Accra first thing in the morning for the big Maari-Bowu Festival because I'm not cut from the cloth of that 5-hour + bumpy ride again
