Although the results were not in our favor, I am deeply grateful for every person who stood with me, shared our message, and believed in our vision for this city. I truly appreciate every voter who entrusted me with your support. It has been an honor to run to serve Decatur as Mayor.

I remain hopeful that our city can come together, unite, and work toward a stronger future for all of us. For now, I look forward to spending time with my family while continuing to cheer on the progress of our community.

At our local forums, I’m often not able to answer every question because we simply run out of time. One question that has come up a lot is: Do I support the arts?

The answer is yes. I believe the arts are key to making Decatur stronger, more vibrant, and more beautiful. As mayor, I will support beautification projects that partner with local artists and businesses, creating incentive programs that bring new life to our neighborhoods and help our buildings look their best.

Investing in the arts is not just about creativity, it is also about economic growth and community pride. Together, we can build a Decatur we are proud to call home.

As we arrive at the 24 hour mark, Teddi and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in this wonderful process and helped to get us to this precise point. While we will not dare attempt to name those who have assisted this campaign individually, we will attempt to acknowledge everyone with a broad thanks.

People throughout our city have offered encouragement with phone calls, texts, inbox messages, notes, cards, financial contributions, volunteering and in many other ways.

Decatur citizens have motivated us by simply opening the door and having conversations; by offering water and cold towels on the sweltering hot July and August days as we canvassed neighborhoods door to door. This campaign has created so many new opportunities for us to give thanks to God for allowing us to see and hear things that we will consider blessings for the rest of our lives.

As we enter the last 24 hours of this enlightening campaign, we have one more request; that request is that each of you get out tomorrow, August 26th, and cast your vote for a brighter Decatur future. We ask that you help complete the process and elect me, Billy Jackson, as the next mayor for the City of Decatur, Alabama.

Out grabbing a bite after knocking on doors today and had the sweetest moment. This proud 2nd grader from Benjamin Davis wanted to show me his grades and told me he already has a picture with one of my signs, so of course, he wanted a picture with me too!

I’m so blessed by the encouragement and support I have received throughout this campaign. It reminds me exactly why I’m running, to build a Decatur that invests in our kids and their future!
