This is what happens when fireplace systems are improperly installed. The wood structure supporting the fireplace is severely rotted out. Improper construction caused this failure and the fireplace system has to be totally replaced.

Before snowzilla arrives please remember the following: In case of power outages, your fireplace or gas units are not intended for continuous use for long periods. They are just not designed for that type of stress. Please make sure your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.
