August is shaping up to be another exciting month at MTVFR!

We begin the month by celebrating National Volunteer Firefighter Day on August 18, recognizing the dedicated men and women who give their time, talents, and hearts to serve our community. Their commitment makes a difference every day, and we're grateful for each of them.

We'll also be celebrating several birthdays within our MTVFR family; be sure to help us wish them a happy birthday throughout the month! 🎉

🍖 Don't forget—our next Boston Butt & Rib Fundraiser pickup will be Saturday, September 5. Watch for the link for preorders next week and be sure to order early to help support your local volunteer fire department.

As always, we invite anyone interested in volunteering to stop by one of our Thursday night meetings or training sessions. Whether you're interested in firefighting, EMS, or supporting the department in other ways, we'll train you and help you find where you can make a difference.

Please join us in congratulating the members of Mud Tavern Volunteer Fire & Rescue, along with participants from Neel Volunteer Fire Department and Trinity Fire and Rescue and Trinity Police Department on successfully completing and passing the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course through the Alabama Fire College!

An Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) is trained to provide immediate lifesaving care during the critical first minutes of an emergency. EMRs are equipped to assess patients, perform CPR, control bleeding, manage airways, use an AED, and provide essential care until an ambulance arrives or care can be transferred to a higher level of medical provider. For first responders, this training can make the difference in saving a life when every second counts.

This class also represents an important milestone for our department. Our department set a goal of ensuring all operational members of Mud Tavern Volunteer Fire & Rescue are trained to at least the EMR level, strengthening our ability to provide emergency care and better serve our community.

Congratulations to everyone who completed the course! Your hard work, dedication, and commitment to continuing your education will have a lasting impact on the people we serve. Thank you to the Alabama Fire College for providing this outstanding training, and congratulations again to all of our newest EMRs!

The storm that blew through today was a great reminder that helping your community doesn’t always mean riding on a fire truck or working on an ambulance.

Sometimes, it means having a tractor and taking a few minutes to help clear a tree from the roadway. When community members step up to handle those types of situations, it allows our firefighters and EMTs to remain available for medical emergencies, fires, and other urgent calls.

At Mud Tavern Volunteer Fire/Rescue, we center ourselves around four core values: Dedication, Contribution, Selflessness, and Teamwork. Those values don’t just apply to the members on the trucks — they apply to anyone willing to step up and help their neighbors when it matters.

Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to have many neighbors who have answered the call whenever they were needed. You don’t have to be a full member of the department to make a difference, and you don’t have to physically live in Mud Tavern to be part of what we do.

If you’d like to be a little more involved and be someone we can call on when extra hands are needed, consider joining our Auxiliary Team. Whether you have equipment, special skills, or simply a willingness to help, there’s a place for you to serve.
