Hillside Bethel Christian School
Christian School Pre-K through 12th Grade Christian School
We’ve been keeping our campers on their toes all week at Soccer Camp! ⚽️ Today we got to kick back, enjoy the beautiful weather, and have a little friendly scrimmage. 😁
Our campers really brought their A-game, scored big on teamwork, and absolutely kicked it out of the park! They may not be bringing home the official trophy, but they’re definitely World Cup champions in our eyes! 🏆⚽️🥅
Such a great day to splash around !!
Today we take a moment to pause and remember the life and legacy of our Founding Pastor - Donald E. Horath.

🎉 SUMMER CAMP REFERRAL REWARD! 🎉
Our D.A.Y. Summer Camp is off to a fantastic start, and we’d love to welcome a few more families into the fun!
Here’s how you can help:
👉 Refer a new family to our summer camp.
👉 If they enroll and attend, your family will receive ONE FREE WEEK of SUMMER CAMP!
There’s no limit to how much fun we can have, and there’s still plenty of summer left to make memories, build friendships, learn new things, and grow in faith.
If your child has been enjoying camp, tell your friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family members. A personal recommendation from a trusted friend means more than any advertisement ever could.
Interested families can contact the school office at (217) 429-5590 for information and availability.
Thank you for helping us share Hillside with others. ❤️

We had an awesome visitor at Hillside today:
The Cecropia moth (Hyalophora cecropia) is North America's largest native moth, known for its impressive wingspan (up to 7 inches) and beautiful reddish-brown, gray, and white patterns with crescent-shaped markings. As a giant silkworm moth, its adult stage is short (1-2 weeks) and non-feeding, focused solely on mating, relying on energy stored as a large caterpillar that feeds on trees like maple, cherry, and willow.
Key characteristics
Size: Largest native moth in North America, with a wingspan of 5 to 7 inches.
Appearance: Stout, hairy body with red, white, and brown/gray wings featuring prominent white crescents with reddish rims. Males have large, feathery antennae to detect females.
Habitat: Found across the United States and Canada, often attracted to lights at night.
Diet: Caterpillars eat leaves (maple, cherry, etc.); adults do not eat at all.
Life Cycle: A single generation per year, with adults emerging in spring/summer to mate and lay eggs before dying.
Fun facts
Harmless: They do not bite, sting, or poison people.
Short life: Adults live only about one to two weeks, with their sole purpose being reproduction.
No mouth: Adults lack mouthparts and survive on stored energy from the caterpillar stage.
Weather permitting, ALL students will experience “Take Out Tuesday” as we head to a local park for a picnic, activities, and games.
Even Ms. Shively took a turn at flying a kite!
