Happy Pride Month!!! Let’s take this time to learn from this movement and LOVE one another beyond our biases. We are stronger when we join our hands across the intersections of our identities and find our strength against prejudice and discrimination together . πŸ–€πŸ€Žβ€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ–€πŸ€Ž

I can’t help but wonder did Derek Chauvin have any truly close and intimate relationships with Black people? If I were a betting woman I would say NO...not in his whole life. Maybe a few acquaintances here or there , some Black folks he went to school with , maybe fb friends, coworkers ,but nothing truly intimate that involved the formation of love, empathy and understanding. He may not have been able to imagine George Floyd as himself , or his brother, or father , or uncle due to his strong ingroup (White) biases. And add his negative stereotypes about Black people and personality type and it is perfect recipe for the death he caused and where he is now. But maybe if for once in his life he took the time to develop truly intimate relationships with Black people and develop true cultural competency , he would have been able to see George beyond a stereotype, as HUMAN and get his damn knee off his neck. Today he was held accountable for not addressing his biases and his personality before he killed our brother George Floyd.

ACCOUNTABILITY has for once been served in America. The precedent was set today for JUSTICE . We still have work to do but this is the beginning of what will hopefully be the end and true JUSTICE and EQUALITY in America. Today was accountability for George Floyd’s death and for all those that died before him to get to this moment. I encourage you all to do the individual work it takes to go beyond stereotypes and biases driving your behaviors because you will be held accountable in this NEW AMERICA. Hold yourself , your communities and elected officials accountable now to do the work to see that BLACK LIVES MATTER. Individuals need to figure out how to get beyond the ugliness that our society has caused on our minds and behaviors that lead to such hateful behaviors. # BLM ✊🏿 ✊🏾 ✊🏽 πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€

Representation matters and this show is still a classic! It’s sad that the number of shows I can show my daughter of people who look like her is still so limited in 2021, but I am enjoying reliving every episode. Thank you for putting the show on your platform and and for making this show. It still works wonders πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€

What type of training are they receiving???Obviously not based in psychological science and helping them understand how their negative attitudes about the people they are suppose to be protecting and serving are bound to come out in the behaviors (especially when under high stress conditions). Civilians have every right to fear their lives when their lives are in the hands of people who at the root see them as NEGATIVE (whether they realize it or not). They are not getting the training or the real world experiences that stop them from seeing Black people as not human and until that happens it won’t matter how their training teaches them to go for their dominant side for the gun and nondominant side for the taser. This is a tragedy and their will unfortunately be more of our brothers and sisters who face this tragedy if we don’t shift the minds and the behaviors , not just the policies.

Good job for showing an excellent example of what it looks like to for the first time realize you have biases you need to adjust . Also, well done showing them move towards each other at the end of the scene. Adjusting biases/thoughts changes behavior. Makes you move towards those who are negatively stereotyped instead of away.

As we head into the weekend, carve out some time for self-care. It can be something as simple as putting on an eye mask, taking a bath, indulging yourself in a home-cooked meal or calling a loved one. Make sure that you are preserving your energyβ€”both physical and mental. After all, you cannot pour from an empty cup.

Happy Friday folx!
