What happens when you analyze nearly 30 years of HBCU presidential data? 👀📊

From 1998–2026, this landscape analysis examined HBCU presidential leadership trends using iPEDS data and institutional records from HBCU websites.

Some findings were expected…
Others were surprising.

📌 Female presidents at HBCU community colleges had the LONGEST average terms of service at 6.8 years.

📌 Men were 2x more likely overall to become HBCU presidents and 3x more likely to serve a second presidency.

📌 Public HBCUs experienced the highest presidential turnover rates — averaging a new president about every 4 years.

📌 Private HBCUs showed the most leadership stability over time.

This is why data analysis matters.

Because numbers reveal patterns that conversations alone often miss. Leadership stability, representation gaps, institutional turnover, and opportunity trends become visible when we actually analyze the data.

Data doesn’t just give us information…
