Decatur Youth Services ( DYS) was established to help facilitate and encourage a community-wide effort in combating the problems in our community .

This would entail high rate of school drop-outs, illiteracy, unemployment, teenage pregnancy, drug and alcohol use/abuse, gang activity, juvenile delinquency, and poverty, just to name a few. We are so proud of these amazing students!❤️📚🚲
This summer, these children didn’t just attend the SNAP Academy Summer Program. They showed up ready to learn, accepted coaching, stayed committed to their journal writing, and worked hard to strengthen their writing skills. They listened to feedback, applied it, and allowed their own unique voices to shine through every journal entry. Their consistency, growth, and dedication earned them these special incentives.
The Alabama Literacy Association Conference generously donated the books to encourage a lifelong love of reading and help students build strong literary habits.
The bikes and helmets, generously provided by Huntsville Urban Bike Share Coop, were awarded to encourage students to stay active and healthy, keeping both their minds and their bodies engaged.
SNAP Academy was honored to collaborate with the City of Decatur Youth Services (DYS) this summer to help prevent learning loss and equip students with the literacy and critical-thinking skills needed to succeed at the next grade level.
Congratulations to each of these students! Keep reading, keep writing, and keep believing in yourself. Your hard work paid off, and this is just the beginning.
