Gifted Camp for Decatur Public School Students
2nd-8th Grades A Decatur Public School District #61 hosted gifted camp for current and future DPS students.
Campers work side-by-side with local companies and organizations to make new products, create value-added services, generate awareness around a critical topic, and produce pieces for new audiences.

Students from American Dreamers played the amusement park games created by the Smash Jr students. There was a lot of laughter and fun!!!!

All three Smash camp groups came together to run through the amusement park games. This was a test run before it’s opened to other groups tomorrow!

Mrs Krause’s students created an amusement park using legos. The name of the park is “12 tires” and includes the following: an aquarium, concession stand, rock climbing, playground, jungle gym, horse back riding, alligator swamp, Ferris wheel, spaceship ride and teacup ride, slide, treasure hunt and games. Great job!!

Smash Camp students have been busy building their amusement park games. We have seen critical thinking, problem solving and lots of sharing. Kudos to our campers!

Mrs Krause’s students made roller coasters out of strips on construction paper. They did an awesome job! And the job wouldn’t be complete without each camper’s photo on their roller coaster!

Ms Tisha’s room enjoyed the outdoors at Rock Springs last week.
A couple reminders for upcoming excursions!
Mrs. Tisha’s Smash Jr group: Rock Springs on July 15th, weather permitting. Bring your permission form back, please, and wear sunscreen!
Miss Carissa’s Smash Sr group: Overlook Adventure on July 19th, weather permitting. Bring BOTH permission forms back, please, and wear sunscreen!
Mrs. Sue’s Smash Jr group: Children’s Museum of Illinois, July 20th. Bring your permission form back, please!
For all excursions, lunch will be later than typical, so eat a good breakfast in the morning!
As always, students are asked to wear closed toed shoes and bring fully charged iPads for full participation in activities ☺️

Hello Smash Campers- We are ready to welcome you to Smash Camp on July 6th!! We will be located at Stephen Decatur Middle School this year. Camp starts
At 8 and ends at 1. A letter will be sent out to those students, grades 2-7, that have registered. We are very excited to welcome you all back in person!!!

Hello SMASH campers! There may have been some confusion with the summer school application, but we are here to clarify: SMASH CAMP IS STILL HAPPENING!! 🥳
On the summer school application, it is considered “acceleration” and will take place in July at Stephen Decatur.
At the end of the form should be a place for additional comments: please put “SMASH” if you think about it.
The registration is first come, first serve and is open until May 7th!
