The Metropolitan Atlanta Theatre Awards, founded by Russ Ivey and a handful of community theatre companies, originated in 2004 to recognize local theatrical productions and talent. An organization dedicated to providing awards for theatrical performances by non-union professional and community theater companies around the metro area of Atlanta.
Good Friday Friends! Just wanted to give everyone an update on how the MAT Awards are coming along with getting back off of the ground.
We are currently working on putting together a potential fundraising gala, as well as a new website.
The website will have an online entry process for the theatre companies to put in their productions each season and provide their affiliated judges, as well as a mobile voting system for the judges to get us away from the old dinosaur system of using an Excel spreadsheet. Thank goodness!
We are very excited about this process and will keep you updated as this progresses. Our current plan is to kick off our first season once the theatres have completed their current schedules so everyone can plan around participation.
Good evening friends! The MAT Awards is dusting itself off and starting the process of getting back off the ground! Please bear with us as we take some time to work through some logistics and some small changes to our function and we will get back to focusing on bringing theatres back together and work as a community again! We are excited and looking forward to what is in our future.

We are currently looking for someone who is in graphic art design that would be willing to help us create a new company logo. Please email Russ Ivey at [email protected] if interested.
Good Afternoon Everyone,
The MAT Awards would like to let everyone know that we will be closing our doors for an indefinite period of time. We are doing some restructuring of our business and will need the time to do so, whether the theatre industry picks back up or not. We are not permanently closing our doors, but we don’t know how long our doors WILL be closed. We appreciate everything and everyone who has been so generous to our organization and look forward to seeing you down the road. The MAT Board loves you all and will see you, hopefully soon.
Sincerely,
The MAT Board
The MAT Board has been in discussion and decided that it is with deep regret that we are ending this season of the MAT Awards, including this year's ceremony, due to the recent COVID-19 situation. We feel that recognizing only some of the productions that were submitted, while not being able to judge any of the ones affected by this pandemic, wouldn't be fair to all involved. Therefore, we are postponing operations until we get through the current times.
We are in discussion right now of possibly having a mixer of some sort around the same time (if not the same date) as the original planned ceremony. We are in early stages of discussing that. So, we will be in touch once things flesh out.
We are very sorry for this and hope you all understand our dilemma and choice in this matter.
Sincerely,
Russ Ivey
President/Founder
