🦇 Alabama Rabies Update: 39 Confirmed Cases in 2026

Rabies is still showing up across Alabama. According to the Alabama Department of Public Health map, there have been 39 laboratory-confirmed animal rabies cases as of September 11, including 15 bats, 17 raccoons, 3 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 foxes.

🐾 A few reminders for pet owners:
• Keep your pet’s rabies vaccination current.
• Avoid contact with wild animals, especially bats and raccoons.
• Don’t handle wildlife that appears sick, injured, or unusually friendly.
• If your pet has been exposed to a wild animal, contact your veterinarian promptly.

Rabies is a serious disease, but vaccination and avoiding contact with wildlife are important steps in protecting your pets and your family.
