Millikin University Trumpet Studio

Have you bought your tickets yet? “Strike Up the Band,” a concert of old-fashioned band music and jazz favorites, will happen this Saturday, Sept 23 at Kirkland Fine Arts Center at 7:30pm, and will feature the virtuosic playing of Dr. David Moore (here pictured) on cornet.

Here's a great opportunity for students who are preparing for the upcoming ILMEA All-State auditions. Our faculty can help them learn the etudes and get advice on how to play their best. Interested students are welcome to have complementary dinner on campus and stay for the MSWE and Jazz 1 concert that evening.

Finally, our last senior shoutout is: Hannah Markun!

Hannah is graduating with a BM in Music Performance and is from Plainfield, IL.

Her favorite Millikin Memory: ”Any time I was sitting at the benches. Whether it was studying, doing homework, needing support, or having fun with all of my friends. I wouldn’t have made it without the benches!

Congratulations Hannah, the studio will miss you so much! Your outstanding work in and outside the studio and your positive energy will surely be missed!

Next in our outstanding senior shoutouts is: Madison Leek!

Madison will be graduating with a BM in Music Education after student teaching in the fall semester. We will miss her so much on campus in the fall! She is from Harvel, IL.

Her favorite Millikin memory: Sitting outside with Kara Sheridan and Hannah Markun during our “10 minute” study breaks. I loved all the amazing conversation, jokes, and smiles.

Congratulations Madison, the studio will miss you so much! Your unending support for the studio and positive feedback will surely be missed! 🎓💙

Yesterday we had some amazing seniors in the trumpet studio graduate and continue on to student teaching this semester! First up: Meghan Welfer!

Meghan is graduating with a BA in Theatre and a minor in music from Geneseo, IL.

Her favorite Millikin Memory: “my favorite millikin memory in music was when I finally broke the ice with you guys in the trumpet section, because it was the first time it clicked that I missed playing trumpet, playing band music, and that I REALLY missed being around such great people like you guys.”

It’s been a fantastic year getting to know Meghan, and the studio will miss your kindness and positive energy so much! Congratulations, Meghan! 🎓💙

A long-standing MU Trumpet Studio Tradition: during the last masterclass of the school year, the studio goes on a nature walk! It was a bit toasty on Tuesday, but it sure is a fun way to end the year!

Congratulations to Senior Music Education Major Madison Leek on her outstanding senior recital tonight! We are so proud of you, and we can’t wait to see all that you do student-teaching in the fall!
