So true!
😂
Someone asked me recently why I chose to do community theatre when I don’t get paid for it. It was a question that I had to think about. My answer to that question is that theatre does pay me. It may not be monetary but I have never done a show that hasn’t paid me.
It has paid me with some of the greatest friends I could ever ask for. Friends who are extended family who I can count on no matter what.
It has paid me by teaching me tolerance. To look past our differences and to work together to accomplish a common goal.
It has paid me by giving me an escape. When I have a bad day I can look forward to going to a rehearsal or show and play as someone else even if it’s just for a few hours.
It has paid me by giving me a sense of purpose that my job or anything else can not give me.
It has paid me by giving me a self confidence that I never knew I could have.
It has paid me by giving me a place and a community where I belong and fit in.
It has paid me by giving me the opportunity to work with young actors and being able to help them reach their goals.
It has paid me by opening up new doors to serve my community and neighbors.
It has paid me by making me a better person. It has taught me tolerance, compassion, love, empathy, understanding, patience and so much more that has changed the way that I see myself and other people. I am a better person for everything it has taught me.
The list could go on and on..... This is why I advocate so heavily for theatre because I know what it has done for me.
So no I have never been paid monetarily for anything that I’ve done in theatre, but I do promise that it has paid me. It has paid me in a way that money never could and never will. That’s why I continue to do theatre.

This is so true! I have not had a “lead” role since High School but still feel like I bring something to the table that makes the production good. As does everyone else else. Theatre is a team effort!
All Roles Are Created Equal — OnStage Blog I am honored anytime I get to perform up on stage in any capacity, and I promise you, there is nothing embarrassing or disappointing in receiving an incredibly powerful "smaller role. A role is not measured in the number of lines or lyrics or minutes on stage, but rather by the amoun
Thank you guys for the likes. I want to take my acting and directing more seriously this year. I am going to use this page to document all of my theatre adventures!
