At the framing stage, we’re thinking through things like wider openings, better clearances, blocking for future grab bars, and layouts that will continue to function well as needs change.
Small decisions now can make a home much easier to live in long-term.
Not every upgrade in a custom home is worth the money.
These are a few of the things we do think are worth investing in- because they improve how the home performs, functions, or holds up over time.

• Finish-in-place hardwood floors
Our rule of thumb: spend your money on the things you use every day, the things that are difficult to change later, and the things that make your home perform better.

When it comes to designing a home, it’s never just about the floor plan. The floor plan and exterior elevations have to be considered together- one constantly informing the other.
Sometimes that means going back to trace paper again and again, shifting walls, studying proportions, adjusting rooflines, and reimagining what could be until the whole house starts to make sense.
A little look into the ideation process for our upcoming Arthur Street homes. This is the part of design that happens long before anything gets built- and often where some of the most important decisions are made.
Special thanks to “A Field Guide to American Houses” for being such an invaluable resource for studying historic precedent and understanding the details that make each architectural style feel authentic.

Build Show LIVE always leaves us with pages of notes and plenty of ideas, but these are a few that stuck with us most.
Some are about building better homes. Some are about running a better business. But all come back to the same thing: be intentional.
Set clear expectations. Study what has stood the test of time. Pay attention to the details. Build better systems. Be a good steward of your client’s money.
A lot to bring home from San Antonio- and plenty we’re excited to put into practice.

Concrete polishing is underway at this custom shop build. With a freshly painted interior and plenty of open space, this one is shaping up to be as functional as it is clean. Careful planning & attention to detail are bringing this project one step closer to the finish line. Can't wait to see the finished product. ✨
