AIDB Southeastern Interpreter Guidance Network - SIGN
SIGN, Empowering interpreters to reach their limitless potential!
Our mission is to connect interpreters across the southeast and to support and empower them to reach their limitless potential.
The AIDB Office of Information Technology was alerted on, January 7, 2025, that on December 28, 2024, PowerSchool, the student information system used by the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind as required by the Alabama State Department of Education, became aware of a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to K-12 staff and student data.
At this time, PowerSchool has confirmed the stolen data primarily contains contact details such as names and addresses.
PowerSchool is confident that the incident is contained and has no evidence of additional malware or continued unauthorized activity in the PowerSchool system. PowerSchool does not anticipate the data being shared or made public and believes it has been deleted without any further replication or dissemination.
If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].

Self-Directed Track - CATIE Center Project Level Up has created a self-directed track that is open to anyone who wants to take their abilities to the next level related to interpreting in healthcare settings. You could be a certified or non certified interpreter, a working professional, or a lifelong learner, to name a few examples.....
I encourage all SIGN participants who are eligible to apply! SIGN is one program run by one person... We are in the process of growing our mentor pool but cannot yet provide all the support that is requested. The IRIS Project is an AWESOME opportunity to engage with a cohort or peers, facilitated by remarkable diverse leaders! BEST yet, SIGN will help cover travel costs to attend the required onsite weeks!

This recommendation is bizarre. Why would signs need to be paired with oral words? Do Spanish words need to be paired with English words in order for babies to learn them?
Image description: Can we please stop telling parents to “pair the sign with the oral word” when exposing their baby to a signed language? Babies aren’t born preferring English. Just because it would help YOU to pair a sign you don’t know with an English word, doesn’t mean we need to do it for babies. It’s not like signs only gain meaning when there’s an oral word linked to them. Signs are meaningful on their own.
