Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, the day the Emancipation Proclamation was finally enforced on June 19, 1865, ending chattel slavery in the Confederate South.

We honor the Black abolitionists who fought tirelessly for freedom and the generations of Black leaders, workers, and organizers who continue the fight for liberation, dignity, and justice.

As an organization committed to immigrant and worker rights, we recognize that many of the systems that endanger Black workers today are rooted in the legacy of slavery and systemic oppression. On Juneteenth, we reaffirm our commitment to dismantling those barriers, advancing safe and equitable workplaces, remaining rooted in abolitionist ideals, and standing alongside Black workers demanding the protections, respect, and opportunities they deserve.

Today, we celebrate freedom, resilience, and the ongoing work to build a more just future for all.

Sur Legal Collaborative’s Worker Leaders Solidarity Fund is be a standing, ongoing fund that centers resourcing and empowering workers from high-hazard, low-wage industries in ways that are directly responsive to their needs.

With summer heating up, we are attuned to heat stress and heat-related illness increasing, and the focus of our next campaign for the WLS Fund will be to raise money to be able to provide the workers we’re in community with some heat-stress emergency kits. We believe the workers who welcome visitors, prepare meals, clean facilities, drive passengers, and keep Atlanta moving deserve to share in the benefits of the World Cup. This should be a moment of celebration for all; for us to fully include all, means that those who bear some of its most thankless, difficult work are at a minimum safe and treated with fairness and respect.

Today was the opening match between Spain and Cape Verde at the Atlanta Stadium. As FIFA comes to ATL, we stand with immigrant workers and all workers fighting for dignity, safety, and justice on the job ⚽️📢

Grateful to We Rise for giving us the opportunity to screen the film “Sin Sombra, Sin Descanso” to our worker base and highlight the experiences of workers who have suffered with lacking protections from extreme heat.

Events like these help us open dialogue with workers directly, hear their stories, share worker safety resources, and more us closer toward practical solutions that benefit all workers regardless of immigration status 💜☀️

Our team was honored to join community members, workers, organizers, and advocates in Savannah for an incredible and important rally raising our voices about workers’ rights, organized by Migrant Equity Southeast ().

During the program, we spoke about the importance of standing alongside immigrant workers and strengthening the collective power of working people. Immigrant workers are essential to our communities and economy, and protecting their rights strengthens protections for all workers.

We also highlighted the significance of Deferred Action for Labor Enforcement (DALE), a policy won through years of advocacy that provides temporary protection for immigrant workers who come forward to report workplace violations and cooperate with labor investigations. These protections help ensure that workers can seek justice without fear of retaliation or deportation, and we are proud to be invested in providing popular education and legal services to at-risk workers in some of the most precarious working environments.
