This one sounds small... but it isn't.

Sitting on a wallet for 8 hours a day tilts your pelvis to one side. That tilt creates a chain reaction up through the lumbar spine, into the mid back, and eventually into the neck and shoulders. Some patients have dealt with years of unexplained lower back and hip pain that traced back to something this simple.

It even has a name: wallet neuritis, or "hip pocket syndrome."

If you regularly sit on a thick wallet and you have lower back or hip discomfort, this is worth testing. Move your wallet to a front pocket or a bag for two weeks and see what changes.

Small mechanical inputs add up over thousands of hours of sitting. Your pelvis is the foundation your entire spine builds on. Keep it level.

Between heavy backpacks, hours on screens, and the demands of sports, their developing spines are under real daily pressure.

A quick check you can do today: weigh your child's backpack. Pediatric guidelines recommend keeping it under 10% of their body weight. Also make sure they're wearing both straps. Single-shoulder carrying shifts the entire load to one side.
