New blog post on an important update to Michiganders' free speech rights: The Michigan Legislature has passed the Uniform Public Protection Act, which protects against SLAPPs (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation." For too long, Michigan’s lack of anti-SLAPP protections have allowed people to be subjected to to costly, time-consuming, and emotionally draining litigation just for exercising their right to free speech. The new law protects our free speech rights by allowing defendants to seek early dismissal of lawsuits filed to silence speech, pause such cases before legal fees start piling up, and even shift litigation costs to SLAPP plaintiffs.
